Thread regarding Norfolk Southern Corp. layoffs

NS should manage by positive incentives instead of negative

They should manage by positive incentives instead of negative. Managing with negative incentives will only make someone do enough to not get fired and is horrible for moral. Managing with positive incentives makes work much more enjoyable. For example instead of writing people up for calling in sick, maybe try offering a monetary bonus for attendance. Small things like this make a huge difference and these are some of the things that make people hate working for NS. This is a tactic that other companies use to attract and keep talent. NS would benefit greatly from making changes along these lines.

NS has invested too much time and energy into making supervisors and managers out of people who openly despise craft work and craft workers. They would have to fire every single one of them and start over fresh with people who actually regard their fellow man as a human being. Not going to happen in this lifetime.
