Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Getting rehired

I know in advance that some will say that the stupidest thing a person can do is to try to apply again for one of the positions after getting cut. However, everyone has their reasons.

I am only interested in one thing, and that is what is the chance that a person will be hired back in Oracle, or does this company not like to rehire former employees?

You seriously should just move on to another company. Now is the time to make that happen for yourself. Oracle is a sinking ship. It's not a place you should want to return to. There are other good companies out there to work at. Go for one of them. You can do it and you will feel better about yourself in the end.

That is how this place is so messed up. They give small BS raises that don't compete with market. Then you leave and come back for a good raise. If they just paid correctly people would actually stay longer

I know 2 people who returned, one was a developer and another one was a manager. One left and was rehired a year or so later by the same director. Another person was let go due to reorg but came back in couple for years with different org and higher position. But it was like 5-7 years ago.

Personally: N.F.W.

I know people who have satisfied their "five resumes a week" requirement to maintain unemployment by sending resumes only to Oracle after being cut. O will not hire you back inside of a year, but after that, they will hire you back.

Leaving and coming back is one of the only ways to get a substantial pay bump. Otherwise increases are tiny over many years, if any at all.

My word! Looking to get rehired at Oracle has got to be the worst career decision anyone could possibly make!

This would be akin to someone back in 1912 making it into a lifeboat, and then 10 minutes later deciding to reboard the Titanic.

Unless you're getting rehired into ERP, Healthcare, or to work under Larry/Safra, there is no reason to return. I too thought of applying for jobs internally, but about 7 rejections later and knowing that they will probably cut even more people post CloudWorld made the entire thought moot.

Sorry so many people are giving you cr-p. I was part of the most recent layoff and while I am not looking to get rehired by Oracle, I know a lot of people who are or already have been. Also, over the years I have seen a bunch of folks leave and come back, so yes, Oracle is fine with bringing people back. Do what’s best for you and sc--w the haters. Good luck!

Many Oracle employees seem to love the company’s deliberate abuse of them.

"Why? Thank you may I have another syndrome?"

A great example of the Oracle Doormat Principal, which has been discussed previously on this board.

Years ago, I quit Oracle to move to a startup company. The Oracle recruiters were calling me before I'd even finished on-boarding with my new job. It took about a year for them to get me an offer that was worth coming back for. I tell my directs that the best way to get a raise at Oracle is to quit and then come back. If you haven't burned bridges there's a good chance you'll find a route back in.

Why? Thank you may I have another syndrome? There are countless companies out there that need good people. Why go for the abusive relationship? You do know they all pay?

I left a few years ago and my VP said they would hire me back in an instant if I asked.

If you have good contacts in the organization, they will hire you again .
