Thread regarding Ford layoffs

layoffs are underway

Just checked the calendars of a few supervisors and managers. All them have many half hour private meetings this week starting from August 17 to August 19.
I guess that the layoffs are already underway. It may not happen all at once. Supervisors and managers most like will notify people one by one.
Just my guess, take it with salts.

@1grl+1igq0NeI - agreed but the majority of those close to retirement are privileged white folk who think a corporation owes them something and because of this selfishness, they will continue to stay and rob minorities and POC who are hungry and willing to work much harder then them.

Sad times..

We need new talent. I'm sorry I don't mean to be disrespectful. but a lot of people at retirement age are just doing the bare minimum and waiting for the company to give them a package before they leave!

It's time for some old timers to get out of the way and let us do our job to keep Ford alive.

But for real, were there any layoffs today? Or just more incorrect information and vicious rumors on this thread?

I don't care if you were laid off 25 years ago and the process. It is irrelevant.

There were people who were let go during SRD that sued Ford and won settlements. I believe they sued over the pension and Ford settled out of court because someone found an email trail that clearly stated they were looking to eliminate the people who would save Ford the largest amount of money long term. They looked at Ford start date and salary. Performance didn’t appear to be a consideration. Without the paper trail they might not have done so well.

I'm sure this makes Farley very very happy. More feathers in his hat.

Do not waste your time with an employment attorney, unless you have a solid case of discrimination, and AGE does not count.

Someone asked how far I was from a pension milestone when I was let go during SRD. In a few months I would have hit 20 years and the pension projection tool showed a nice bump had I made it. I did get my pension just less than I had planned. Someone else that I know who was let go at the same time had been with ford for a little more than 25 years and was a few months away from turning 55. That person had been getting TAs for years so that was clearly about the pension.

I have a family member who will rip you off every chance they get. Ford is that kind of family. It’s fine, I’m doing well as is the other person mentioned above.

It would be nice to see class action when all 8000 guys get 36 month of salary!
If that happens drinks on me!

@tjj+1igq0NeI - correct at least in cases of Age Discrimination. Based on the website below you'd get a minimum of 21 days to decide and then another 7 days to revoke the decision.

https://legalaidatwork.org/factsheet/severance-agreement-and-release-of-claims-fact-sheet/

Age Discrimination in Employment Act Claims - CANNOT be released even if a waiver is signed:

Typically, claims under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), which prohibits employers from discriminating against employees who are 40 years or older because of their age, cannot be waived unless certain requirements are met. Waivers of ADEA claims in severance agreements are only enforceable if the employer, in addition to meeting other requirements, gives the employee at least 21 days to consider the waiver (and at least 7 days to revoke it) and advises the employee to consult an attorney.

2007,08 Were horrible times for I and others.
I was in the heavy construction industry and it came to a screeching halt.
Had to sell Our home of 17 years, Downsize Our lifestyle dramatically,
it was like the end of the world.
We stuck it out and eventually My industry slowly picked up.
I retired 5 years ago and now on the otherside of the new economic situation and feel very blessed.
My point is never give up, It is not the end of the world.
Tough personal economical decisions will have to be made, Keep Your heads up and stay positive.

I believe by law in Michigan they have to give you more than 2 weeks to decide to sign. Especially if you are over 45, or some age. No one should sign cr-p without talking to a good employment attorney!

LOL. I was not treated like family, at least not the kind of family you’d keep in your life.

I was contacted by instant message. Several other people told me they also received an IM. The paperwork was emailed to me the same morning, which was the middle of the month, and I had until the end of the month to sign. If I hadn’t signed and returned the document by month end Ford would assume I wasn’t going to sign. The documentation advised to talk with a lawyer before signing but I imagine that was more about covering Ford’s backside than out of concerned for the dearly departing.

"The LL3 contacted me and asked me to join them in a conference room. No advance warning."

Sorry to hear that. How did they contact you? Also how are others currently being contacted (WRH)? How close were you to your milestone (weeks? months?)?

I was let go during SRD so we weren’t working remotely. The LL3 contacted me and asked me to join them in a conference room. No advance warning. They asked if I knew about SRD (stupid question) and told me I no longer had a job. Very heartless and matter of fact. No thank you for your contributions, no explanation, no kiss my a$$, no sorry we screwed you out of that pension milestone you were approaching, nothing… I was told documentation would be emailed within the hour and I should review it and sign it or not. It was explained that I would need to sign if I wanted severance. Over in a matter of minutes.

Are you given any time (days / a week) to look over the separation package if you get the call?

There are a bunch of LL6 and LL5 that are leaving too...They are watchful of the lump sum just like everybody else. So much for a controlled reorganization.

How were / are people informed by LL3's? Are they called or is a WebEx meeting sent to them???

@mph+1igq0NeI True. The LL5 and LL6 hid the whole time LL3 was cutting.

The notification typically comes from your LL3 not your supervisor. At least that’s who canned me and the others in my organization.

Some teams won't see action until next week. Sorry to report that surviving this week alone does not ensure safety. This place sucks.

Rumors-mill is spinning again. Does it matter whether it happens today or next week (or even next month)? If you think you are going to be cut, probably want to polish up resume and start applying just in case. Living in constant fear is bad for the health.
