Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Any other stores open to only 5pm

Just curious if any stores out there have recently changed and are only open 1 shift 9-5 , and if so what was the reasoning you were told for change? amd what area are you in?

We went back to normal hours for Sept after being reduced for two years. Now because so many quit again in the last two weeks we are back to reduced

Guess I'm lucky. My store is fully staffed and open from 9 to 7. If your hours are shrinking to 5, you are likely to be converted soon. It has happened to every store that had compressed hours in my district but one. And it wouldn't surprise me to see that one be next.

The issue is— they’ll keep us “open” until 7, but they know that the majority of customers come in after 6:30– thus keeping us there working until 9:30-10:00 at night.

If they are reducing store hours at your store, it's only a matter before your store will be closed or converted to indirect.

Sure go right ahead and push for one shift. One shift only means they will reduce head count and you will have more work to do. One after another after another. Remember when Verizon does something you may think is positive they flip it around with a negative. 1 shift good, reducing head count because of it bad.

I've said for years if they made our hours 10 to 7 M through Saturday it would fix a lot of issues. Sundays aren't busy and it's troubleshooting day for the most part. You have 1 shift and won't have to have as many reps. you could easily run a store with 4 to 5 reps everyday. You might even get away with 3 on Tuesday. it would fix a ton of staffing issues.

OWP only does this when there are staffing issues.

We lowered our staff from pre-covid and have gone to longer hours which does nothing for our customer that drive to our store and find 2 reps working from 9am to 11am and 5pm to 7pm. Longer hours doesn't fix the wait times dummies. One shift at least allows for a full staff model. If you can't staff a store then it shouldn't have hours of "service" posted. It should read hours of no service. Our fearless leaders came up with the 9-7 all store plan.

We have been on modified hours for around two years cause staffing. Open hours 10-6. They need to make this blanket across the US. One shift makes too much sense. I've been saying for years we need DMV hours. Pull off the veil, we aren't apple, we are a utility. Have you seen the age of people that come to the store? We need DMV hours and early bird specials

This happened back in April to our store because of staffing issues involving reps and managers. The store was open 9-5 for two months then went back to 9-7. There was also two other stores in the district that changed at the same time. ( Eastern Texas). Having the one shift solved a boat load of issues and the stores didn’t have to randomly shut down or close early. We had hoped this would have been a permanent change but it looks like just a temporary fix for staffing issues.

Yes my store in Phoenix closes at 5. We don’t have enough customers later in the evenings plus high theft between 6 and 8pm.
