On a town hall call with a PBM IT VP today, it was revealed that layoffs could effect our portion of the organization. Some consulting group is being put in charge of this effort and determining who goes, apparently. It was noted that last week was only one of multiple rounds. PBM IT is typically a very stable portion of this company, so if we're in danger, then I think it's best that I make the rest of you aware. Good luck out there

Bill allows Medicare to negotiate dr-g prices. This way members will be able to afford their medication’s and have extra money so that they will be able to afford supplemental insurance policies. If members can’t afford their meds, which is what is happening now, we all lose. They end up in the hospital over and over again because they cannot afford their insulin or their COPD medication’s or their blood thinners. United healthcare is offering zero co-pay for member insulin so let’s see how that goes for Humana. That’s going to hit harder than any bill that’s been passed by Congress. I think you call that competition. United healthcare is still making billions and still covering members health needs. Why can’t Humana do this?

You cannot be serious. Are you up for losing YOUR job? And you must realize that no corporation pays taxes. The customers and employees of said corporation pay them. A 15% tax on a company (Humana, Walgreens, GM, Amazon, whatever) elicits one of these responses to save money- raise prices, cut hours, cut services, or eliminate staff . No company will say , oh well, we will just make less profit. YOU will pay more, earn less, or earn $0 if you are laid off. There is a price to pay for most and a huge price to pay for some.
This is explained very well by economist Walter Williams in a column from 2011 and is still applicable today. Just substitute “corporate tax” for “luxury tax”. http://walterewilliams.com/ignorance,-stupidity-or-connivance/
Seems to me layoffs are a small price to pay to decrease price fixing by pharma-Humana included. And asking corporations to pay a minimum tax-less than I, as an individual have to pay, is also patriotic.
Think about it. The new bill the Democrats just passed allows Medicare to set all medication prices. Seems like Pharmacy/PBM is not going to be lucrative anymore. Couple that with a minimum 15% corporate tax on top of decreased member enrollment and major reductions in employees is inevitable.
Oh cr-p. I know members haven’t been signing up for the mail order pharmacy but did not think that they would outsource it. Thank you for the heads up. You’re right if they’re in trouble we’re in trouble
That is very surprising! I thought that was a huge money maker!
PBM = Pharmacy Benefits Management
What is PBM IT?
I’m sorry to hear this, but the RIFs are done by a consulting firm after they get the reports, so it’s objective, who gets impacted
