Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Utterly disappointing

I was disappointed and surprised when I heard that they cut a person that Oracle should have kept at all costs because he was an exceptional talent. Supposedly, the manager assured him beforehand that he was safe.

I'm interested in whether anyone else was assured by the manager that you have nothing to worry about, only to be cut afterwards?

It happened to me too, I was told I was safe and then out. My manager had no idea, they didn’t ask anyone. It was done in a silo.

Someone changed their mind. There is no law against that. It is what it is.

What I have heard:

Senior managers do keep a list of people they want to protect at all costs. It seems as if those lists are visible to executives.

This round those lists did not matter. Even senior managers have been stunned and taken by surprise.

Moral is…. No one is safe. Ever. I feel better At least knowing this now.
