Thread regarding 3M layoffs

This is what we have to look forward to

I expect about 4K, maybe 5.

Once the cuts are made, the "leadership" will bring back more of those inane worthless comments.

  1. Work smarter not harder - what have we been working d-mb lately?
  2. Eliminate non value added work - you mean those 100 slide PowerPoints?
  3. We have found synergies- wait, what about jg14 and up?
  4. This cuts are helping us be more competitive, in order to save what is left- you mean more like grab a bigger pail to bail out the sinking titanic once known as Mother Mining?
  5. What got us here isn't what will take us where we need to go - as in, time to cross the river Styx for the next leg in our journey?

Posted by @yib+1iWE5wRE, he/she is 100% right, sadly.

Ooof. No wonder 3M has been going downhill, if this is what you get from "career 3Mers." But, hey, I'm a women, so I guess I must just be plain mean.

3Ms success or failure has nothing to do with the diversity, inclusion, etc.

It's about hiring the best talent and then developing them into leaders. Leaders need to develop the next generation of leaders and this is where 3M has failed this century, beginning with the GE Mcnerney. The 3M culture of networking, innovation, sharing ideas, etc. Was strong in the 1980s and 90s. Not that there aren't pockets of this today but the underlying issue isn't whether we have the right mix of people or the right number of ERGs. Behind every failed team is a failure in leadership.

Sadly, I think this is so ingrained over the past 20 years that the company would be better off breaking into 5 or 6 pieces and hiring some people who can inspire the people left. Anyone LG14 or up should have to apply and interview for jobs in the spins.

I wondered how long it would be before race was introduced into the discussion. Even in a moment of turmoil, the American people run to their corners and shout at the rain.

I lived abroad and my experiences were all positive. I learned the language. I loved the local culture and the climate.

Minnesota has got race problems. After all George Floyd was mu---red in broad daylight. You need to start living in the real world.

*45 year career 3Mer here.
I can remember when the best part of the day came at the end of the day when I got to shoot the ŚĥǏţ with older experienced coworkers. Helpful stuff like how to get things done, network building to solve problems, career advice, building relationship, etc. Even personal stuff like coaching on marriage, divorce, elderly care, etc. Just loved that and made me want to get out of bed and into the lab as fast as possible! I was so happy to have supportive friendships at work!*

Today‽ Not so much. Half of my coworkers speak English as a second language, and I can't understand them, the communication barrier is just to awkward and frustrating. WomŸn are just plain mean. I have zero interest in Pride month, Muslim culture, Kwanza, Diwali, Qingming, Cinco de Mayo, etc. Nowadays, I just focus on doing the least amount of work to keep my job (never going above and beyond) and go home as soon as 7:55 hours are up to get out of that environment.

To the person who posted this :

Know that > 65 % of your salary comes from OUS countries, where many people don't speak English on a regular basis. Are you willing to forgo 65% of your current salary since you obviously don't like these people.

Also know that 3M's destruction has been done mostly by Mcnerny, Inge T and Mike R...all old white males just like yourself ! So much for white supremacy !!!

Roman is garbage I agree. A3M and woke DEI/ESG initiatives that add no value will be his legacy.

But let us not forget he inherited Inge’s mess, who borrowed billions and financially engineered the stock to $260. Around the time building 280 opened I watched Inge give a talk there. Someone asked him “why are you borrowing money to buyback stock?” And Inge responded “I would never borrow money to buy back stock” Uhhhhh what do you call adding billions in debt while spending billions on stock buybacks then Mr. Thulin?

3M has spent $28.5 BILLION on stock buybacks since 2013, ALL at a higher price than it is today. Buy high, sell low! Fcking cuks.
