Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Just a quick question

Purely out of curiosity, I am interested in what you think about how the company could deliver significant growth?

If I were CEO & Chairman:

  1. Announce price match guarantee. We will match the best current offer of ATT & TMO. Will hurt margin but improve revenue and market share.
  1. Sell non-ILEC wireline business.
  1. Sell our professional services division.
  1. Combine all value tier consumer brands under a single brand, such as collapsing Visible into Tracfone, or whatever makes sense, just get rid of the redundant brands and simplify the marketing story.
  1. Sell some mmW assets to the extent legally allowed. Keep what’s needed for private networks, etc.
  1. Use cash from divestitures to service debt.
  1. Hope and pray that a real 5G application comes to fruition

Leadership needs to decide if Vz is a Telecommunications company or a technology company. If it’ a Telecom company they want, they need to get rid of the archaic systems and practices that bleed profit. Spend the money to turndown old equipment and actually use the equipment that has been installed and just sitting there. Instead of a tech doing only x, they need to do xyz. Make second level management a thing of the past and you could probably also cut a lot of 1st liners too. The list goes on, but unfortunately, none of it amounts to growth, just increased profits that will quickly level out. Gone are the days of Vz being able to make money despite itself.

Do not rely on wireless people to do understand networking. Bring back network experts that can include wireless.

Start by going back to the idea that this is a phone company, as in people want their phones to work.

The blanket idea that 4T4R is the answer across the board is sheer idiocy.
Rural area customers, and those where coverage is not as robust, benefit far more from some decreased throughput rather than overall reduced foot print. Word of mouth advertising has far more impact than multi million dollar advertising campaigns.

Just because something is new, doesn't mean it's practical. 5G UWB is one he-l of a boondoggle. Its foot print should more accurately measured as a toe print.
Verizon Go 90.
Quit digging.

Maintain the outside plant network as it needs it, not after the failures become overwhelming.

Put people in positions of leadership that actually have experience in that which they are leading. Expensive degrees from fancy institutions does not equate to experience or qualification for a position.

Respect the base of the pyramid.
As in sales and marketing, engineering and operations.
For all the executive effete snobbery, they can't exist without the aforementioned.

They could start by acquiring talented people that mirror the fortitude and brilliance of Mr. Vestburg.

That would be something for a successful, qualified CEO to determine and implement and obviously we don't currently have one of those.
