How do you know we’re doing nothing useful to enhance our careers?

Personally I’m happy to stick around for a couple more months continuing my online training, using the time to build up my portfolio and refresh my resume, saving money ahead of my next move and keeping an eye out for good opportunities that are right for my family. You don’t just have to jump ship to another big company and you certainly don’t need to act on the fear of hire freezes, there are other options out there too.

What’s a joke is the amount of judgemental people on here desperately trying to get others to quit their job when they have absolutely no insight into their personal lives.

Some of these posters are a real joke. To simply stick around waiting for a layoff while doing nothing useful to enhance one’s career is just plain d-mb. It’s inertia, just staying around because you’ve been at Oracle for a long time.

Companies often freeze hiring at end of calendar years often starting in October, so be prepared to be out of work for while if you get RIFd soon.

What’s more important to me is having an exit strategy and not being afraid to follow through on it.

Great advice. There are plenty of reasons why you have to stick it out, at least in the short term. But let's face it, the place isn't going to get any better. If anything it will get worse. People need to face that fact. In No case does it ever go the other way around. I wish it were different, but it never is.

three of my ex co-workers have retired and they couldn't be happier, but they had to stick it out for two+ years because they felt it wasn't worth changing.

I get that all these “leave now for your own sake” posts here are well intentioned, but thats not the best solution for everyone.
