Very insightful. Thank you, but let’s extend your argument. Your theory pertains not only to acquisitions, but to Oracle customers (milk ‘‘em dry) and more importantly to employees. Use them and abuse them. Half will love it, half will leave, but there are always more to fill the ranks!

This is a repetitive post but relevant. The gripes are valid but are always due to Oracles master plan which is growth by acquisition. They don't develop, they buy companies with established products they deem profitable. They stifle real innovation by buying a good idea and sucking the profits out of them until they die on the vine. Think of them as a harvester of businesses. Just like you would grow tomatoes and accept the vine will eventually stop producing. This is and has been O’s business plan since the DB was invented. Combined with licensing strong-arm tactics its been a good strategy for a greedy few. Nothing personal, just business, simple sterile business. You can justify staying at Oracle if you are simply working for a check.
If you expect them to provide a career path, dream on. It is a reason they don't provide meaningful training. That would be counter to their plan. “Use em up, throw them away, buy another one”.

You should have added that the worse way to get ahead at Oracle is to; work hard, obey orders, take training, have a supportive attitude, care about customers, fill in all the paperwork, and follow the rules.

The best way to get a promotion at the big O is to come in from the competition (because they do it better?).

The second best way to get ahead is to be a friend of someone who recently came from the competition! You get a cushy job with RSU’s.

So many useless programs are instituted. Programs designed to make it appear that management has new initiatives at play, but the real reasons are:

• It is so easy to simply reinvent the wheel, and call it your own.
• It buys you time until your RSU’s mature.
• Administrating the programs provides cushy jobs for your friends.
• Makes you feel like a boss.

Gratitude is a one way street at Oracle. You have to consider yourself lucky to have a job, while they give thanks for your hard work by squeezing more out of you, reducing staff and changing strategy every 5 minutes.
