Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Diversity

Seems the Layoff doesn't want to hear about Humana's foray into wokeness. Lets play a different game. I wonder how the companies woke policies will translate in their decision process, about who gets laid off. And this is not a political statement it is a valid question regarding being laid off. Will the 'diversity' issue factor in to the decision process?

@2bej+1iPsMSip Depends on your understanding of woke. For me a company which spends time and money on virtue signalling but treats employees badly in the shadows. REALLY WOKE.

Humana is doing a better job of hiring diverse individuals. Still somewhat behind in terms of women and minorities in upper leadership, but they are trying. I don’t think Humana can be classified as “woke”. Perhaps moderate, but the company still has conservative values on many fronts, they’re just trying hard to be more inclusive and not discriminate based on age, gender, se-ual orientation and race.

If you think Humana is woke, you might want to investigate the Humana PAC and where most of its money goes. Not saying the company isn't progressive in some ways...but if you follow the money it definitely isn't "woke".

Haha. Read your post again. Your second sentence goes against the point you were trying to make and actually makes the counter claim instead. So great you were even bright enough to realize it.

No proof is offered that this is happening. No examples offered where it is even suspected. Just that there's a cabal of woke people, whatever that gets defined as, firing people for political reasons. Maybe it's this sort of baseless accusatory and conspiratorial behavior that is getting certain people RIF'd, not "wokeness".

Wow. Woke people are angry selfish people who think it’s fine to discriminate on hiring/RIF based on skin color. ESG rules corporate America now and it will lead to a workforce with no diversity of thought. Sounds like Communism and I can’t sign on to that.

You are a dinosaur, a vanishing relic in an increasingly multicultural world. And that scares you, doesn’t it. Otherwise you’d stop blaming what’s happening on “wokeness”—whatever that means—and realize this is how corporate America works. Corporate America is solely concerned with profits, investment strategies, executive pay and shareholder value. That’s it. Layoffs aren’t happening because of “wokeness.” They’re happening because the company’s real interest isn’t you or me or any employee. It’s money.

What’s more, HR reviews all the criteria done with layoffs to ensure there’s no problem with age, race, gender or other protected categories. So “wokeness” isn’t a factor. Point in time assessment and other factors, like business need and overlap, are.

So stop with the “wokeness” pity party, dude. Get a grip. Or become a fossil. Your choice.

Diversity is a good thing. Not sure what you mean by woke, but if it’s the fact we are hiring more non-Caucasians, that’s not a bad thing. There’s no place for politics, discrimination or hate in the workplace

Well, your use of the word “wokeness” takes away from your validity. Humana isn’t “woke”, Humana is making sure the company is mirroring the diversity of society. Is that a bad thing? How about this, quit playing victim to policies that are only in place because this country has failed to follow “all men are created equal” and start looking to how you can make a difference. Both within and outside of the pink marble walls.
