Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

What's likely to happen

Rumors that are likely to come true:
Back end/receiving clerk deleted
3rd party flatbed
Kitchen cabinet specialist deleted
Reorganizing of management (Fewer ASMs, different departments covered).
PSE deleted (Many stores have already deleted this position and make high volume stores cover)

The big one: Multi-department specialists. Apparently has been tested and may go into effect soon so as to improve coverage in less desirable departments and cut back on number of specialists. Might benefit the specialists who stay as they can sell anything and make SpH easier (albeit, threshold will be lifted higher) for bonus.

Less likely to happen:
Deletion of cashiers. It has been tossed around that self checkout will replace cashiers, but this is highly unlikely as many customers hate the self checkout machines due to the time it takes to scan through everything. It's also problematic for customers who buy large items (Wood,Drywall, appliances) as they can technically use the self checkout but as a giant hassle.

There may be others but those are the current ones being tossed around

Bumped from @rbb+1iNC9ZJp for good info.

Another quarter or two with earnings trialing HD then wouldn’t be surprised to see cuts. The fat they need to cut should happen in the field, reduction of DMSM, RFM etc.. and at the store level cut the number of ASM’s, too many managers, not enough associates taking care of the customers.

The title “Specialist” needs to be changed to “Su---r”, for still working at this sinking ship.

They just installed 10 self-checkouts in our store, which is a high volume $60 million/yr + location. Most cashier positions will be eliminated. With more automation in receiving I can see back end clerk going away too, just a matter of time.

With interest rates going up, housing and appliance purchases are going to plunge—it’s already happening. This means the company must slash payroll and jobs. ALL positions in the stores will be looked at and evaluated, and frankly I think even district/area jobs will be scrutinized as well. The number of ASM and DM positions will probably be reduced and tied to sales tier.

Original Poster nailed it- especially the PSE part. Big rumours they will cull the herd AGAIN in October. Biggest shame is that they don't cut the District staff. They make insane money and play gotcha with the stores.
