Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I don’t understand why employees are not more outraged by Wells Fargo’s constant stream of wrongdoings.

I know we have a lot of good employees who do care, but can’t afford to leave. I get that.

But I do not understand those who make excuses and rationalizations for the bank’s terrible behavior and want to stay and be a cheerleader for a company that is clearly rotten to the core. You are collaborating with your own enemy. (If you don’t think Charlie is your enemy, than you need to learn to read the room.)

Seriously, maybe Charlie’s new action plan is to hire people who don’t know the business, don’t read the news, don’t know right from wrong, don’t care about right from wrong as long as they are collecting a paycheck, don’t care if the the company they work for is morally bankrupt, don’t care if he is screwing them because they don’t think they can do better elsewhere… that means he doesn’t have to worry about those nasty Whistleblowers, right?

Rationalizations I’ve heard:

  • “I didn’t work here when all the tomfoolery happened.” Please learn more about the latest news and fines. Many of the latest penalties are for wrongdoings occurring under the current C-Suite’s watch.
  • “Technically, they weren’t found guilty of all they were accused of”. Oh please. You are smarter than that. WFC needs people who are strong and will stand up against inappropriate conduct.
  • “Wells Fargo is a good company”. There’s no excuse for that response. Seriously, you can’t do your job properly if your head is in the sand. I’ll bet you think Bernie Madoff was stealing from the rich to give to the poor.

“Other banks are doing the same things, or worse.” No other bank is under a Federal Asset Cap for gross mismanagement and lack of oversight. Are we at a point where we’re rationalizing that it’s okay to do wrong as long as there’s some one else who is worse? I hope not.

“The benefits are phenomenal.” Wells Fargo’s benefits are very average. Are they good compared to Party City? Yes. Are they good compared to other well- managed companies? Average at best.

“Charlie has us on track and is cleaning up the mess.” I’m sorry, but 😂. The Feds do not agree. Please provide a well documented list of what you say Charlie has done to clean up the processes, controls and culture to prevent inappropriate activities. Charlie is just moving around the deck chairs to extend the time where he can line his own pockets at everyone else’s expense.

“Things were way worse under Stumpf.” Maybe. It took more than 10 years for Stumpf’s and Tolstedt’s scandals to come to light.

“None of these things had anything to do with my group.” Oh okay. You would happily work for Jeff Epstein as long as no one in your group was abusing under-age girls. Nice.

The answers to why there is little to outrage by the employees is because we have become numb to the reality of WF’s business model.

Oh. Lol. The people that recently joined to bank are effing up left and right.

Tons are recent wrong doings. It’s takes time.

Wait for the RCSA story. We can’t hire other people’s garbage.

This is crazy.

Glad you started with “ I know we have a lot of good employees who do care, but can’t afford to leave. I get that.” Well many of us are living that. A sad end to what it might have been.
I remember a lot of good years, we did so much. We were pioneers on the leading edge for example internet banking. We earned decent bonuses, even LTI was a given. The press was typically favorable and collaboration was high, people cared about each other. I was proud of this company, now I am ashamed. Many of us have put so much time and effort into this company, we are older now close to retiring and the option of leaving has too many cons, so we wait it out, pray our 401 comes back up, try and keep a good attitude, try and add value and try to hide the shame from family and friends. The ugliest of chapters in our working life, not to mention the stress and toll that has on health and happiness.
My advice to younger team members is to get out now, don’t be part of this evil corrupt place, because in the end you are but another evil cog. If you are still here knowing what you know, then that speaks volumes of who you are and managers, you are more like sadistic guards in a psych ward. Felt good to vent, now back to the rot.

How about a strike or walkout? Until they get rid of those at the top and replace with ethical people. And give everyone earning below a certain salary threshold a cost of living adjustment. They are nothing without all of us!!!!

At Wells is ALL about "Give me muh bonus!".

As long as everyone gets their bonus, they stay quiet.

Under Stumpf, there was strong morale. Employees as a competitive advantage. At least he threw us some crumbs. Full bonus if top employee in team. Quarterly 401k matching. Preferred stock. Team Member. I know not much, it was something. Now that little bit is all taken away, while piling on work, forcing RTO (cutting efficiency), and re-calibration. Executives huge bonuses. And layoffs for 3 years.

Nothing will ever happen on corporate levels.

For example, most of the companies are forcing out older American, replacing with young H1-B. For once, workers gathered and sued Disney a few years back, but lost years later. Because third party consultants do not count replacing American.

Government is too busy for most of us.

Most of the "wrong doings" are against the blacks, so who cares? They deserve it.

Hah! You are the most concerning. Your view is “I’m okay as long as I’m not the one who is getting screwed.” Good to know.

Incredibly twisted logic trying to somehow make profit driven malfeasance the government's fault yet again.

These are your coworkers. Is it any mystery that the bank is a dumpster fire?

It's too big to manage. The OCC and FRB don't want to admit it or deal with the breaking it up. Never trust the government to properly regulate or manage anything. Several Senators on both aisles has said the bank is a criminal enterprise. I could not agree more.

Yeah, we all saw your very similar whiney post the other day. Stop with the spam. The idea that the best way to turn a company around is for all the good/moral people to leave, while keeping the source of the problem around, is laughable on its face. I'm not quiting because some people I've never met and don't know in some far flung city did something wrong is ridiculous. THEY should leave, not me.
