Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

The direction Humana is going in….

I’ve been WAH for over 10 years, and have seen many changes…I was surprised to see Humana was getting into housing and even more surprised today to see a job posted that was this in the description:

Humana’s Louisiana Medicaid Housing Specialist will support clinical care teams in order to help Medicaid enrollees find, and keep, safe and stable housing. They will be responsible for ensuring that enrollees transitioning from facility to community are connected to appropriate housing resources, including but not limited to, referral of potential enrollees to Humana’s Permanent Supportive Housing liaison for application to the Louisiana Permanent Supportive Housing program.

Please look at the jobs listed on indeed, and the states they are listed in…in will give a view of where Humana is going….and it is face to face, Medicaid focused in different areas of the country.

I think the HAH Telephonic care management is going to be stripped down to the bones over the next year, to support those in areas Centerwell or these other initiatives aren’t able to reach, but that may be limited, too…I don’t think open enrollment is really going to Matter this year as it has in the past, they are going all in on Medicaid populations, so that’s enrollment throughout the year. Probably safest bet for WAH job security would be roles like UM.

But, if you’re in Louisiana, that job posted for housing support looks interesting!

Their are over 11 million people who have been granted Medicaid benefits who do not qualify. This was enabled due to the pandemic emergency provisions but once the emergency designations are lifted, these people will no longer be eligible. Seems like Humana is chasing short term government money.

They are going after Duals. Many Medicare contracts are not rewarded if the company does not have a Medicaid presence in the state. It is strategic. The landscape is changing. Housing is probably a requirement of the State contract.

I’m very skeptical of switching to the Medicaid market because those contracts are not guarantee like the Medicare. One minute we will have them and the next you won’t. I’ve know quite a few people at other companies working in Medicaid Dept whom said they are always. Devoid their contracts for Medicaid won’t be renewed and loose their job. I don’t wanna live like that on pins and needles wondering if the Medicaid contract will be renewed

From an article on line…this is the focus….

Humana and private equity firm Welsh, Carson Anderson & Stowe announced a jo--t venture in mid-May to spend $1.2 billion to open about 100 CenterWell clinics from 2023 to 2025. The announcement came amid an ongoing jo--t venture to use $800 million to open 67 centers by early next year, according to a news release.

Welsh, Carson Anderson & Stowe has a majority ownership of the jo--t venture. Humana has a minority stake and is tasked with management of the clinics under the CenterWell banner.

CenterWell falls under the umbrella of the health insurance company’s so-called Primary Care Organization, which includes Conviva Care Centers. Humana currently has more than 220 such centers and 240,000 patients in its primary care business.

In addition to the senior primary-care centers, the CenterWell brand also includes Humana’s home-based care and pharmacy services, which both adopted the CenterWell brand this year.

Only one quote seems fitting for what's going on here:

Yes, losing jobs because they’re investing in other programs. Good people will lose jobs, but it’s a business decision

Medicaid business will be the downfall of Humana. While the company is trying to save 1 billion, we’re pouring money into housing for Medicaid members. Sounds like some really bad decisions have been made and good employees are going to lose their jobs because of it.

How are they charlatans if this is the model they are doing? I don’t understand

Humana is trying to build a Socialized Medical Model with this company being the gate keeper. No surprise they are into housing, they even tried Trailer Parks in the past. Humana is run by charlatans.

And, then they’ll try again or go towards the next thing…but what’s been done the past 10 years is no longer the direction or model
