What is needed to get an accommodations request approved to WFH temporarily? I do want to stay in the office 3 days a week but need to work from home until April in order to medically take care of myself. I have heard there are influxes of WFH requests since RTO. Lugging my medical equipment into the office while I’m in treatment isn’t going to be fun. Is a simple doctors note all that is needed? I don’t want WF knowing my detailed medical information though. It is none of their business.

Well it sounds like they let up the rules on accommodations. I submitted my form, had my doctor sign a letter but then i had to sign a Medical Waiver so that HR Accommodation Analyst could have a conversation with your doctor directly. How folks are getting accommodations by screen shot of vitals is rather humorous. They could be bogus. Accommodations are serious. I had to think long and hard if i wanted to sign a medical waiver to allow anyone to talk to my doctors without me on the phone but that is the way the cookie crumbles. I would agree that there are certain very clear disabilities that would maybe be so obvious that returning to work is not an option but that is news to me
Yes they do have the ability to contact your doctor to discuss your medical requirements based on your accomodation request. YOU WILL need to sign a MEDICAL WAIVER. It is NOT a limited medical waiver. I did it they were very nice and they talk to your doctor about the best way that they can accommodate your medical situation. Telecommuting is an option. They (HR) and your manager may be able to determine if they can accommodate you in the office. So you can’t just say you have a medical condition you have to prove it. Just because your doctor sends a note they will get a call direction from HR Accommodation and the information will be kept separate from your employee file.
- all WFH accommodations are temporary. they are granted for a period of time and re-evaluated.
- procedure is the same regardless of duration or reason - start an accommodation request on TW.
- you will be told/allowed to WFH while they get to your claim/evaluation.
- you will have to supply info from you treating physician about reason, duration and accommodation requested (I.e. some people request lower threshold of days in office vs FT WFH)
- reason for accommodation is not shared with manager. Manager is asked by accommodation consultant whether your job can be done without creating reasonable hardship for the group/business unit.
I filed a temporary accommodation request one week before I was supposed to RTO in March. Some health readings had skyrocketed so all I did was upload pictures of those readings. I told them it was temporary until I could get to a doctor. I didn’t file the form from the doctor at that time.
I got an email from HR a few days after filing saying they would get to my case in 6-12 weeks and that I could WFH until then. They told me to forward the email to my manager to let him know.
It did not contain any details about my medical issues. Your manager is not allowed to ask. You’re just letting them know that you are allowed to work from home so that you don’t appear on a list
After about five months I was contacted by HR. They attached the form my doctor needed to fill out. They’re extremely nice and give you enough time to get the form and other information together (about 2 weeks). Your case is in suspend mode from the time they first contact you until they assign your case.
Bunches of people don’t bother going to the office and they don’t have an accommodation . Why bother ?
You don't necessarily need to give your dr the WF form. My doctor simply supplied a one-sentence letter that covered the 3 key pcs of info: Reason, Frequency and Duration.
I know firsthand how it works and what you need.
Have your dr provide you with a letter w/3 pieces of info:
- Reason for medical accommodation/limitations
- Frequency (e.g., part-time or full-time telecommute from home)
- Duration w/specific dates (e.g., 3 months, from x date to X date, to be re-evaluated at that time)
You will need to open a medical accommodation case w/HR and upload the letter. They will review the letter, call dr. if any questions (w/my case, they never even called dr.) and review w/your mgt in order to approve.
It took HR 4+ mos. to contact me with questions (they are backed up). Then, 3 more weeks to finally approve.
Wtf are you asking that question on this site? Go ask your manager, ask HR, etc
You request for HR Accommodation. You are able to WFH until someone gets back to you. Instructions are provided to what to expect. Be prepared to submit the HR Accommodation form which is basically the reason you need an accommodation, length of time needed, and signed off from your doctor. Your manager won’t know the details other than you put in for a HR accommodation.
Fill out the request and it will take them quite a few weeks to contact you. They will send a form to your dr to fill out. They will see if they agree with it and if your manager agrees with it then approve/decline.
