"Clover is a start up within Fiserv that controls its own destiny" was the message I was sold when joining. So that was a lie.

Clover here. Clover is long gone and has been for the past 2 years. Reduced benefits, musical chair of "CEOs" and shattered morale from lack of compensation. No telling when Dan's going to leave to do something else right after Jeff. The only difference is we have a plant wall, more snacks, a garden and free lunch. Policies and corporate BS is the same and engineers have been leaving in droves to other bay area companies that respect engineers and pay well and surprise: don't force them to come back to the office.
Salary here is a joke and candidates laugh at the offers that corporate gives them. They backfill minimally and spend 0 dollars on infrastructure. Architects keep leaving due to poor treatment and nobody knows how things are built due to the loss of institutional knowledge.
Keeping the course, give it 3-5 years before the office gets shuttered. India offshore "talent" who are no better than phone center operators can inherit the ill maintained and undocumented tech stack.
Pretty small future. Stock price is trending in the small direction, so I think you are right.
Clover has historically been insulated from Fiserv and formerly First Data directives. With previous Clover leadership leaving, that's starting to change. They are still very much driving their own destiny though.
