Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

How much do you trust your manager?

I would like to be able to trust my manager at least a little.

I trust that mine will likely follow up a 1x1 meeting where infeasible increases to my responsibilities are communicated with a subsequent chat session to inform me that I'm not getting a raise this year. Oh and that she feels sorry about it.

Fugging clowns.

I trust that mine - and pretty much any other I've observed at O - can be relied upon to be consistently and utterly useless. Serves no purpose but to regurgitate whatever nonsense is being pushed down from above. Absolutely no spine whatsoever to raise a hand and push back when said nonsense is obviously going to be useless garbage that's counterproductive to the whole point of the operation.

Best thing those clowns could do for the business would be to take full advantage of their unlimited vacation time policy.

The best bosses in business today can move mountains thanks to their authenticity and character—the worst are motivated chiefly by the need to feed their own egos.

As a former manager I would say you can't trust your manager because the decisions on who is getting laid off usually comes from a few levels above them. During my time with Oracle I went through three RIFs where our team lost people. During the first two rounds I was told someone on my team was being laid off the evening before the layoffs. I never got to put in any input about who would be let go or told why someone was let go. During the last round I was included in the layoffs and they refused to tell me the fate of my other team members.

Hopefully when news breaks about mgr, now VP that subcontractor trusted for mgr now VP manipulated 2 others to steal work from subcontractor, your question about trusting your manager could become more clear.
Once subcontractor realized what was going on, he filed a complaint with Oracle ethics - and his job was terminated. Mgr now VP filed a fraudulent patent after original inventor lost the job putting Oracle in jeopardy of the validity of other patents. Oracles annual revenue from patents, billions could be in question all because of this one VP that one person trusted when he was his manager.

watch what they have been doing, not what they have been saying. Mangers work for their manger, not you.

Trust has to be earned. Trust, honesty, respect? Oracle is most likely the most corrupt of all. Not exactly on the list of the best places to work.

Not sure what you mean by trust. Just know their limitations, they won't risk their job hinting you regarding information their bosses or HR told them to keep secret.
It's just a job, your colleagues are not your friends. Act accordingly.

Managers execute a script that is given to them. The scripts changes very often within days and often contradictory to prior script.

Absolutely 0 trust. Managers at O or for a matter in any place are there to make you work like robots with no questions asked with fewer benefits.

Trust a manager? Yes!

To do what is the question. Trust them not to have your best interest at heart. They can talk a good talk, but watch your back!

Most of them are bad and you should not trust them, lucky enough I did have some good managers that I can trust before, they will tell us what he knows but not supposed to tell information, but some are so bad that they won’t even tell me salary range on my level, which is public information.
