Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Golden advice

It is less stressful to find a job while you still have a job, so do it now before it is too late unless you are ready for retirement, then wait for the layoff package.

Couldn't have given better advice. I lived through that experience, and that's why I wouldn't wish anyone to find themselves in a situation where they have to look for a job when they lose it. Severance pay is only temporary happiness.

Anyone who knows they are in the firing line should either (i) figure out quickly their move in oracle (ii) start their external search - there’s a lot to be space for having some clarity of mind as you leave something and finding your next thing. Severance is temporary happiness but at least thinking space to find the right thing without being short of cash and having to work at the same time.

Agreed. However, if you're in good shape financially, and you have been a long term employee, and are being paid market rate right now, you might as well wait for the severance. I did that and they paid me 6 months of severance, while I got a new job in 2.
