Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Explanation and Advice

Having been laid off from Oracle decades ago, and returned to survive many many lay-offs, here is my $.02 when laid off from Oracle. If you really want to come back, just wait a bit. In 2 years you can come back with re-negotiated salary etc. Its not the end of the world by any means, and coming back to Oracle is one of the best ways to get a raise. No one will care at Oracle that you were laid off, and in some cases, some people won't even know you left! With that said, breathe easy if you've been laid off. If you do come back, come back to a group that makes money or that is stable. When Oracle tries to recruit the shiny new people, and they bite, they will ultimately be cannon fodder if whatever place they come back to doesn't make (boatloads) of money. Safra has a tolerance for losing money, but it only goes so far. She pulls the plug after quarters and quarters of losses, so she really tries to do new things with the new shiny people. So if you are in a group at Oracle where you are having "too much fun" be wary unless you are also making money for the company. I've seen so many people come into Oracle, think all us "old timers" are useless, and exclude us because we don't have "fresh" ideas. No. We are adults who understand Oracle's business, understand how to survive and pay off our houses and cars and put our children through college. If you know how to make money for Oracle, and you understand corporate America, (good and bad) then you can survive any lay-off especially at Oracle. Just please don't drink the cool-aid when the Oracle recruiting pitch makes you think you are special at Oracle. Make money for Oracle. That is all that matters.

Not convinced by this. Surely it would be a better strategy to go and work a decent tech company?

Coming back to Oracle? NEVER. Why return to an armpit company?

My directs often ask 'How do I get a promotion/raise at Oracle?' and my response is that they should leave for another company and then hire back on. Working diligently in a current role or internally transferring is by no means a path to better comp at Oracle.

I have seen so many come back, I might add that they were usually disappointed. The Oracle they find is often not what they remembered it to be - as things are devolving!
