Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

This used to be my dream job

The only thing keeping me here is the fact that I can't get a new offer. Unfortunately. I think I would accept even a lower paid job if only it had a little more stability. There is no stability here anymore, nor do I think anyone feels safe. What keeps you here?

Oracle is no dream. It is a nightmare. The best thing is to move on from Oracle. There is no way that Oracle will recover. Many have seen the light and left. Usually the better people are moving on. It will be the same for those people who were laid off. The better people will move to jobs elsewhere. The less skilled people who are laid off may just hope to get back into the company. Everyone would be better off getting away from Oracle. The company is dying. There will continue to be layoffs. That’s what happens to companies with huge debt like Oracle. It can’t continue forever.

After just a few months here it is no longer my dream. It is just like the movie, Inception, where elements in your dream attack you, I don’t feel safe.

Still a bit early in my career and the name is a head turner for the line of work I’m in. It will help open doors I previously couldn’t stand in. I’m employed by oracle for under a year but once I hit my first focal and don’t get a pay raise, that will be my first step to leaving. Having made a career jump into oracle during the height of the pandemic, it’s scary to take a leap into the new but it’s always, always worth it. Especially considering the $ that will come along with it. Stay well out there.

Me too. But that was ages ago. They keep putting money in my bank account, even though it's not nearly as good as it used-to-be. My compensation has not kept pace with the cost-of-living over the years. I haven't "felt safe" for a long time, and I know it is only a matter of time before my name appears on a spreadsheet. I'm good at what I do. My co-workers seem to like me. And I like them -- most of them. I put in effort. I try not to be an a$$ho-e. That goes a long way. I keep my head down and get my work done. It's not awesome here but it's not totally unbearable. I work indoors with air conditioning. I work from home so I don't have wardrobe or commuting expenses. I have decent benefits. I'm sure it's better elsewhere, and I'd find better culture elsewhere, but the grass isn't always greener. Those are my reasons. Thanks for asking. I'm curious what keeps others here.
