Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

U.K. - what’s happening?

Anyone in the U.K./EMEA knows what’s happening?

I truly hope we have some communication on Monday but if anyone knows something, anything, please share.

Anyone know what these discretionary amounts have been? Or rule of thumb?

EMEA (OD) has already started.

In the UK its 1 weeks pay for each full year of employment that you were between 22 and 41 years old. 1.5 if you're over 41, 0.5 if under 22. But this is just statutory pay after 2 yesrs of service. Oracle can add a discretionary sum if they wish.

Isn’t the severance one week’s pay for every year at Oracle? As long as it is more than two years.

The UK requires a consultation period. This is a fancy term for putting someone at risk of redundancy but it’s game over if you do not find something in 30 days. Reckon they’ll then send a settlement notice and pay in lieu.

Anyone know what the current severance packages are or have been in the UK?

In the past, EMEA layoffs have come later than the US, and there is no communication in between. It could take weeks. It's not hard to get rid of people in the UK, it just takes longer and a notice period is required.

UK is not part of EMEA

If you layoff our UK employees, how will you replace the brain power that only the British have?

It’s really not that difficult to lay people off in the UK. Easier when compared to most of Europe

I heard of some murmurings on this thread about U.K. being impacted already. Just that have not seen anyone share more light on it.

EMEA is coming for sure. Our entire team outside of EMEA is gone with the person doing the firing stating the entire division had to go. So we were told before we have been told. It has provided a warm fuzzy feeling indeed

There's nothing hard about laying off people in the UK or even Germany, Oracle has had plenty of mass layoffs there before. France is generally the place that it's hardest to get rid of people.

‘Next week is EMEA’

Any more specifics? It’s not the same for each country. Curious as to what to expect…

It's hard if not impossible to fire people in UK and Germany. Americans are like bath tissue, they can be discarded at a snap of a finger.

US got no communication. I don't expect EMEA either. At least you guys have labor laws.
