Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

These layoffs will totally crush employee morale

Morale was already very low and I wonder what it will be like after these layoffs... Probably zero?

Do you really think LE and SC give a flip about your morale? If you don't like it, there is the door, is there attitude.

Go in do your job and do it well, give them NOTHING extra and, take them up on their offer, find something else. You'll be much better off in the long run.

I recently left with less than a year at Oracle and was able to land several interviews with many leading to 2nd/3rd round interviews and had 3 competitive offers to choose from. I even had interview requests roll in after I accepted an offer. It's completely possible to get out and find somewhere better.

You might want to consider something else. The housing bubble is popping and construction in general is going to crash.

Maybe automotive repair. People will always need car repairs, regardless of the economy.

My observation is that the younger your are the easier it is to get an IC level position. Geography also helps.

I also find the interview process to be interesting. You are invariably given a non trivial exercise with a very small time frame to complete. This of course demonstrates how quickly you can slam out code. But the environment you are being hired for has a strict peer review process for code changes, so why hire hire people who can slam out code?

Yep that’s me. I took a job at oracle because last year, no one else would touch an out-of-work IC at my salary band and qualifications. I don’t even have a year of Oracle on my resume, so what the heck am I supposed to do? I’ve already combed through my network. There’s stuff there for other people but not me, I don’t qualify. No decent employer is going to touch me in this economy, and I can’t take yet another paycut.

I’m stuck, and yes definitely feel like a doormat. But I’m putting a roof over my family’s head and am hoping to god I can figure this out. The least I can do is help the laid off folks get jobs elsewhere right now, and that’s what’s getting me through this awful week.

I sit in a cubicle and I update bank software for the 2000 switch. You see when they wrote this bank software instead of using four digits they used two digits to save space, so like 98 instead of 1998 and.... it really doesn't matter. I don't like my job and I don't think I am going to go anymore.

On LinkedIn you have to be professional. But also realize, the people you worked with were probably not the ones choosing to lay you off either. If you want to rant against anyone, it's LJE and SC.

In a more anonymous setting, we all know this company will survive, but its identity is something else now. Short the stock, it's a long ride down.

Oracle employees more than most companies tend to have Stockholm Syndrome. They come to enjoy and expect the abuse and poor treatment, Oracle teaches that such behavior is normal and that Oracle is better than all other employers.

This is why the laid off employees say wonderful things on LinkedIn. Notice how so many of them use the same "i've been impacted by today's layoffs" language. DId the managers who laid them off, also tell them what to say and what language to use on LinkedIn?
