All of us are witnesses to a big disconnect between leadership and the company. But I'm interested in what you think caused this disconnection in the first place?

Forget the disconnect. Huge layoffs coming to cut costs by $900 Million. Update your resume and start looking for a job. Jobs are going to be offshored.
"Do you even know what nepotism means?"
Did you read the comment right before in which they were agreeing to? Is it YOU who doesn't understand nepotism? Probably is executive leadership trolling, it would make sense that they don't know what nepotism means. Just proving everyone's point as to how incompetent they are.
When management is next to be let go we will see how viciously they defend this company
Oh, is that condescending upper mgmt trolling this site, and then questioning someone’s use of the word ‘nepotism’?
Do you even know what nepotism means?
Agree with response regarding the extreme nepotism at the top. That's exactly what happened. The number of people in senior and executive management roles that are completely unqualified is insane.
Since 2016 at executive and senior management level they’ve just relentlessly brought in people from outside that knew each other and which surrounded themselves of more friends and personal contacts, giving each other quick promotions. Outside the expensive “magic circle”, at lower levels, it’s all about saving money, lack of progression and doing more with less. Two-tier professional inequality can only lead to disconnect, frustrations and many good employees leaving. But you’d be a fool in expecting justice and fairness in any or most corporations anyway, employees are essentially numbers despite countless facade talks of values and principles.
Rich people have no perspective.
Greed and bad leadership
