Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Big lesson

Some of my colleagues were cut, and I am surprised that they were cut, given that they were perhaps the best people in our team, top experts. There are many feelings right now, but in talking with them, almost all of them are confident that they will manage to find another opportunity very soon.
No matter how awful these cuts are, perhaps the most important thing for those who are not affected is to remember the lesson to always stay on top of your skills!

The best usually get paid more than the average which makes them a target during layoffs at Oracle. It makes sense why the best get laid off if you follow the money.

Skill talent and importance are intangibles that do not show up on a spreadsheet. What shows up are only tow relevant things years of experience and salary.

Well, that should tell you everything you need to know. You’re next eventually. Better to move on while you can.

Most of us who were laid off were not the highest paid but were just valued members of the teams we worked on. Most of us just got the sh-t end of the stick. And decisions were made at the top without knowing or caring much about the people at the bottom who actually do the work.

Um, sir, may want to work on your logic skills.
If they were the best and were still cut, how does being on top of your skills help? I guess you just mean that they will be hired easily? Well, let us know when that happens and it is proven out.
Likely that these people were the highest paid, and the cuts were for maximum salary savings. Sadly, this may have just the opposite effect, as the most effective people carry more than their own weight.

or look for another career working construction. Not all of us can simply "stay on top of our skills" while working a full time job and caring for a family and also maintaining a home.
