I am in a POTS area that does not have fiber not will it ever. Before Covid hit they combined the construction and maint into one group then told us we were going to fiber training. The training was put on hold because of Covid. On Monday I was told that I am going to fiber training on 7/10. There is a large build out getting ready to take place in Pa. System Techs will be working down locally as splicers and installers. If you are a cable splicer in an area that does not have Fios we are going to be forced out of town. The good news I guess is that we will not be laid off...for now.

Pre 2003 employees have the no layoff protection.
I think the no layoff clause stopped at 03' or 04' not 06'
Seems like with the news of the contract extension, this post might have some legs.
System techs in jersey do more work then any pots splicer wireless construction fios tech or manager in the company on the core or wireless side.Infact also make the company tons of money and are smarter then the engineers or management. So not sure what rock you came out from under in PA
I believe if you were hired in 2006 or later you can be laid off.
You did good until the very end when you said you won't be laid off (for now).. you're covered under a union contract with a no layoff clause, with a several year extension pending.. You must not be an employee to not know that much.
Sorry, poor system techs may have to WORK now
Poor system techs may have to now. Be grateful that you have a great job with great pay and benefits.
