Wells Fargo has taken pages directly from George Orwell’s book “1984”, but not as a lesson in what not to do, but in how to operate the business. Effective 7/1/2022, WF is going to start (if they have not started already) to monitor mouse and keystroke activity on the keyboard. If there is no activity for one minute, a report is generated. This is intended to “improve the productivity”. Welcome to 1984 at Wells Fargo, where we move forward by going backwards.

So, this was completely true. Any that really work for WF, you should know. They now track by the minute. "Active" is logged by "a keystroke or mouse click" within 60 seconds. "Idle" is logged by "a keystroke or mouse click" within 61 seconds to 5 minutes. "Inactive" is logged by "a keystroke or mouse click" within 5 minutes and 1 sec. Then, there's the Locked screen timer, plus the system auto locks you out after about 5 minutes and 30 seconds, if you're not in a call. It's BS, honestly. They're trying to squeeze every last drop of life out of people and overwork the efficient.
Wells doesn't have that kind of compute power laying around to process that many alerts.....but it makes for good click bait!
What about employees with multiple agile meetings each day? Managers who have to sit in call after call? Field techs who come and go from their desks? Mortgage ops employees on long phone calls gathering info and writing it down, to possibly transcribe into a data system later? Seems like it’s going to be a lot of reports for no reason.
Maybe the corporate simps can post away on that cringe link site wherey future company cucks can give acceptance speechs and thanks you as if they just sign a 7 figure contract for a professional ball club. What clowns. So glad we left that dump. No thanks to snack trains, pizza parties, $2 certificates of "appreciation" etc...etc...what we want is real money and real ownership shares. Otherwise save that US nonsense for another citizen su---r
Pretty sure this was a thing even as far back as when I started in 2015. When I did some "digging" myself, I found a system process called "Sherlock.exe" in Task Manager and that alone looked pretty suspicious. I didn't deep dive too much into it but Googling, I came across a reference on it potentially being a keylogger. Whether they're still using that or not, or have evolved to using more/other technologies I have no idea.

I know (IT person here) that they were tracking screen changes a couple years ago. Not that they were trying to see what was on your monitor - it was the fact that "your screen was the same now as it was 15 minutes ago so we think you're not working".
Never heard of anything coming of it. Just another meaningless report on top of a thousand other meaningless reports that nobody reads.
Give them the data they don't want. Work hard at home. Hang out by the water cooler and goof off all day when in the office, I mean, collaborate and things. Right now they are looking for data to support what they want to do anyway, RTO. Don't give it to them.
Yah I am often on phone calls or meetings for much of the day and not necessarily typing anything while I’m engaged in a discussion.. really curious how this is supposed to work. My guess is there are many other employees in the same boat which would make this largely unenforceable (except maybe if needed to prove an extreme case of absenteeism)
Your EMPLOYER making sure you're doing... you know... what they pay you to do... does not equal Orwell's 1984.

what if you’re an advisor to business units and you are pretty much on calls or answer emails here and there? what difference will it make?
Hate to say it, but this is old news. WFC has been monitoring keyboard strokes for at least the past year. What they do with the info -I don’t know - might be similar to recorded phone calls: they only use it if there is a problem.
My friend is a manager and she had an unproductive employee who was put on a PIP. She personally had to monitor the employee’s keyboard strokes on a real-time basis. Ultimately, that was part of the documentation she used to fire the employee.
The only thing getting stroked is under my desk....yeah bi----s
And I'm on all-day calls re: strategy most days, so almost no keystrokes those days.

@ssn+1hpUvFiW I love how someone decided just to start referring to departments as “centers of excellence”. I know it’s not unique to Wells, but definitely one of the cringiest things I have encountered in corporate American hierarchy.
You don’t get to just start calling yourself excellent because you feel like it. More like centers of mediocrity if we’re being honest!

Yeah didn’t think so. Everyone knows, or should know, your activity is monitored. This is true of all large companies. The BS is about one minute if inactivity.
For those saying this isn’t true go back and read the announcement for when the head of HR started. It’s there in black and white - one of her key contributions was said to be productivity metrics.

Are they tracking mouse movement for the people in office collaborating with peers? What good is tracking if you don't have a control group to measure against?

I don't really believe this. They don't have time for this cr-p and there are too many reason for not using a keyboard or mouse every minute
They need justification on why RTO is less productivity from WFH.
I'd be scared, but knowing how poor they are at monitoring day to day business functions, htf would they be able to monitor 1 minute inactivity reports for 250k people? Unless they hired another legion of audit and review flunkies and created a new useless risk/review team... Maybe they could call it the Keystroke Center of Excellence...
