Layoff was just the beginning over here. I feel so defeated and alone. I lost my job but also some of the only outside world communication I’ve had since covid. Check on your friends. It’s probably the ones you expect the least that are struggling the most.

I will second what was already said.
I'm going to say something about outplacement services, though. Early in, I started using a career consultant..... and quickly found that they were extremely idealistic, very scripted, and it became clear to me that they were going off a formulaic approach. They didn't ask me what I wanted, how my week was going, where I saw myself, what my goals or struggles were, etc. In other words, they were very out of touch with reality, the current job market, what employers are looking for, and the common struggles of a job seeker. As someone who interviews often - I change jobs about every two years - I found this very frustrating.
So, if you use outplacement services, be aware that they might use a "one size fits all" approach. I stopped using their services and felt I would be better searching on my own. I'm confident in my ability to find a new job, even though I don't know what that next job will be. As you navigate this difficult situation, there's a lot you can learn through Google, YouTube, etc.... on your own. You can get through this one day at a time.
You are not alone. I am sending good thoughts to you and all our coworkers who were let go. There are opportunities out there. Take your time, be selective, find an interest and a community that engages and supports you. If there are outplacement services, take advantage of them. If you need mental and emotion attention, use your benefits. You deserve to be healthy and move forward in your life. I will be thinking of you.
