I had a clown manager and he is still here. He willingly tells people he is just hanging on until retirement. In the meantime he earns a lot of money for doing next to nothing. His lack of knowledge creates tremendous risk. He’s been reported but nothing was done. The good ole boy network still exists. It is truly unbelievable.
So many managers I have encountered that are in it just for the pay/clout of being a manager without any innate motivation or ability to be a leader of people. Sad!
I had a manager who was a clown. He lied to everyone, constantly. He was nice to everyone but backstabbed. He was let go, placed on the STAR program and hired back in a different line of business. I am so very glad he is gone. He was the master of really bad decisions and would berate people in public (when he was wrong or right). My current manager is the cats meow. He leaves me to do my job and trusts my judgement because I have proven myself to him (the same judgement that other manager hated yet had him in green on every report, even if I followed the rules against his wishes). He is one of the people who got WF into all of the shady af trouble it gets into.
My manager knows better (I think) but has no backbone so we all suffer.
They all came from Chase in a clown car that broke down over there so they drove it over here.

I'm sure there's a lot of mgrs. who fit that description....but my mgr thinks he IS the CEO the way he bullies his peers to do things his way.
He's only ticking his boxes--f**k his direct reports- rumor mill suggests his mgr is aware of his snake behavior. time will tell. I like my work-- just lost respect of the mgmt. I'm close to retirement -- going to ride it out. :)
Our new middle manager created reports to see where the failures in our processes were occuring. Our new manager had no idea these reports were completely wrong, but she was too stupid to say anything. Neither manager understood what we do, but it resulted in a 1/3 of my team getting let go. Soon after my boss quit.
My manager isn't a clown. He's a Snake.
Smart guy, but you can't trust him. Horrible human being. His words versus his actions are not the same. He's a nice guy in person, but in writing he's treacherous. He's got it honed to a fine talent.
In other words, he's an excellent WF manager.
Dont they have to be actually at work for them to be a clown?
My manager is awful
everything is my time,
my job, my payroll and he really thinks
he runs Wells Fargo. He harasse several employees and even made some stop coming to work. He won't approve bereavement let alone PTO. I'm not sure what ER is doing but he needs to GO. He steals time and having other team members watching time for him.

Most of my managers were just clocking in and did not care. It's hard to find a mentor and when you do they do not stay around for long time. The trick is to develop such a good relationship with them and bail with them once they decide to leave. Worked really well for my husband who was following the same person throughout his career - he's made a senior manager in about 10 years after graduating college (he's in IT - Data Analytics).
There are plenty of worthless individual contributors and managers. But managers take the clown title because so many here spend so much time engaged in silly, performative acts.
Heck, it's that time of the year where we pretend to have been coaching and developing and performance managing folks diligently thru two quarters (wink, wink). Managers of all tenure, none of us can even clearly articulate our group's goals this late in the year. Clowns y'all.
My current manager isn’t a clown, he’s a cipher. He’s so afraid of his manager that his personality has been entirely subjugated. He has no thoughts or opinions of his own, and cannot make a move until he runs it by his boss. Nobody respects him because he’s so weak.
It’s sad. This is a man pushing retirement age who graduated from Yale. Now he’s ending his career as a dishrag.
Several of my managers in my career are literally bought out by China.
Outside WF, a manager only hires Chinese h1b recent graduates. Except I applied for the role and they can't offer my job to the H1b worker in his queue. So he gives me he-l for years.
I frequently ask for work to do, because every single projects is reserved for Chinese nationals. I simply cannot transfer knowledge forever.
He filed complain to EAP that I
(1) "Speaking loudly asking for work to do" and
(2) "Annoying him everyday asking for work because he is very busy"
I stopped, follow his direction to give all the help H1b workers ever needs on a full time basis. 3 years later I was laid off.
The manager keeps to hire more H1b, with the additional transferred knowledge from the few American pushed out.
The reality is that there are far more managers with clown employees than the other way around
My manager is from the same village as her supervisor. They are both from a large country in Asia. She's so limited in every sense, cognitive, IQ, tech skills, people skills, emotional IQ. I have serious doubts she ever graduated college, but that's a mute point now that she's already in. The thing that hurts the most is that I do know that she gets paid aboutu two times what I make.
Oh, well...
So I hear that some new management is coming from Chase, and this tiny car pulls up. I say to myself, "well at least it's not a lot of people, how many could fit in that thing?" Boy, was I wrong.
i wish i had a clown manager, at least then i could get a good laugh.
