Hey all,

I've heard in some town halls the recommendation to "keep your teams happy" .

It seems there's likely more layoffs coming, is the intention behind keeping associates happy to prevent a mass exodus subsequently to bleed the associate turnip further?

I've additionally speculated that in order to secure ones role as a people leader, they need to ensure they keep a specified amount of associates under them up to a certain point in time.

Could it be to prevent attrition rates, any thoughts?

Yeah but Associate Engagement Surveys aka Associate Experience is not being done for 2022…talk about cherry picking their data.

Below poster…your skill sets should be in your talent center….I don’t think there are going to be layoffs, if at all, pending open enrollment numbers. It feels like the shaky ship is stabilizing and they’re moving forward slowly and steadily

HR sent leaders across the company a survey asking what their teams do and what are their people working on and their skillsets. This exercise smells of ReOrg and fall layoffs.

I'm in a shared services position and I think there is a lot of anxiety for all of us who are embedded in different segments.

Someone mentioned the Associate Experience Survey ... don't be surprised when that doesn't arrive in July. It is likely not happening.

Leaders want good ratings on the Associate Engagement Surveys and they will treat teams very well up until the surveys are completed. Then they start RIF meetings and increase workload to test associates so they can decide who to cut. Classic Humana game plan.

In an extension of clinical ops to answer one ask.

To the other it's a fair ask why I'd assume RIFs in "keeping teams happy?".

My personal reason is because their not doing so & it's not a priority that's enforced.

Associate engagement was an ask of our team to give more instead of connecting the team historically.

Leadership is indifferent and visibly aligning their skeleton crew it seems.

Development for some, but not all.

Ignoring credit for work while standing up another, among others.

Cherry picking has always been a thing, but it's very visible now.

It has to come from the top down, and since it's not actually enforced it seems contrived. My sense is "keep them happy" as in 'don't be obvious about next steps' .

Suffice it to say, I'm not hearing anyone report differently from their teams generally.

@1ksa+1hkmqFVD, what segment, department do you work in? I’m sorry your team is fearful they are on the chopping block. We have seen quite a bit of movement in the Clinical operations area, with complete teams being moved and a few Leaders leaving on their own.

My whole team is very anxious about layoffs right now. Everything we are hearing points to a significant org restructure in the coming months. I have not felt any reassurance from leadership in my segment.

I’m curious as to why when you hear “keep your teams happy” you go straight to RIFs or “bleeding the associate turnip further”? I haven’t heard of that saying before but it sounds negative.

Genuinely, I’m curious and not asking as a backhanded way to say you’re wrong.

To me, I hear “keep teams happy” and I think they are really trying to focus more on the associate experience. If the workforce isn’t happy, the company isn’t happy. And that’s a good thing. So, I’m interested in why you feel the way you do.

I do think management is trying to be more supportive. They can’t help if there’s layoffs coming or not. It is really in their best interest if more people leave before they get laid off because Humana won’t have to pay severance or unemployment. I’ve been here a long time and they used to beat us down and still lay us off. This is the most pleasant environment we have ever worked in. I’m a care manager. Of course different departments are drastically different at Humana. Unfortunately layoffs are part of the work environment at every company.
