I have an opportunity to join Verizon. I've been doing my research and found this site. The image I'm getting from reading posts here is anything but positive. Are things really that bad? I don't want to rely on one anonymous board to make my decision but I have to admit, this has given me a lot to think about.

Thank you for joining us for this week's episode of "Zippy The Pinhead Discovers https://www.thesaurus.com"
dequire [adj. - past tense] To disown something that is obviously self-destructive to mankind and all of the benefit forth such. ./
Unless you are personal friends with the manager don’t expect a promotion no matter how much work you do
I've been here 8 years and would do it again. If you have ambition, you can grow. If you don't, you can just enjoy the ride. However, if you can't handle uncomfortable/stressful conversations or things imploding occasionally, Verizon's not for you. If you sc--w up, you will be held accountable, but then it's up to you to rebound stronger or be seen as a liability.
Any corporate job would have few good things and few bad things.
Being a legacy corporation , VZ is little bit negative side on culture side. but VZ Pay is slight above average , Benefits are above average.
Few years of VZ experience would be a plus no matter what u do
You would have to navigate politics of any large corporation. Same sxxt , different style
Since downturn is expected , you want to stick with a company which can survive
Don't plan for more than 3-5 years , world is changing fast and things u learn today may not applicable tomorrow .
Pay is decent depending where you are. Benefits are pretty good. I still know people with a pitiful 2 weeks off a year and other nonsense. Insurance is pretty good. Your individual role will depend highly on your team and management. I work with cool people but I can certainly see how some others would be miserable. But that would the case at any job.
Union employees are especially hostile and angry all the time. Surprised one of them hasn't gone postal. Run away from this toilet.
Go do something else your work here is to compensate the executives salaries that unfortunately you will never be a part of.
I interact with the UX team. They're pretty solid. Only concern I would have is that we've over rotated in to the CX area, I've seen it swing back before when funding is cut.
Any insight into the User Experience team?
I dont think id expect a layoff discussion board to be singing praises of the company. Have you tried glassdoor?
Pay depends on what group your in same with work life balance and everything else. It isnt a top tier in most things for employees but far from the bottom. One the the biggest growing issues is just the huge age differences from lifers vs college grads causing varied expectations and work processes.
Op, You’re a fake post.
my work location serves free snacks-kool aid all day long watching up to s p e e d
29 years in---RUN!! Great pay and "okay" benefits. It's the stress, the anxiety and the micromanaging that ruin Verizon. If you're okay with all of that then jump right on board. I'm almost done with them so I'm glad for that.
If it's a job in the IT organization, run the other way. Constant RIFs, outsourcing, and a IT executive management team that is the worse.
This board is full of the unhappy. Verizon is a decent job especially if you mean the corporate jobs not being a Sales rep or CS rep.
Never rely on anonymous boards like this. Most of the people who spend their whining are the types who will whine about anything. A lot of posts are also competitors trying to troll us or unions doing the union thing.
In the big picture, it is a good company with a lot more support and benefits than most and above market pay.
Talk to people in real life what they think, not anonymous posts.
As other poster said, union absolutely, non union RUN FOREST RUN
First and foremost - any post using derogatory language, esp about people from another country - ignore.
Your interview should have shown you what kind work and boss you will have. Every company has there good and bad side. There's nothing stopping you from leaving if you don't like it here. Get VZ on your resume to open other doors if this place isn't for.
Most people and bots that post on this site don't actually work for Verizon, just so you know. If you can land a verizon union job, go for it. The wireless side, meh... I wouldn't.
