Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

It can never be emphasized enough

If there is a RIF, it is already set in stone who is on the list. It was planned months ago. That's how ours was because of one little slip. I tried to get my location swapped six months before the RIF and I could not do it. Nobody would tell me why but I later found that once you are on a RIF list your location must be frozen. This is a law because it prevents a company from moving you from a high unemployment compensation state to a low one. I found that out quite by accident.
DO NOT work yourself to death for this (or most any other company for that matter). Do your job get your work done as a top professional but at the end of the day, leave and don't think about it. They will cut and forget about it ten seconds after you are gone. They deserve the time you put in for the time they pay you but nothing more. They deserve neither your health or sanity, you are a salary on a spreadsheet.

Great advice, @axk+1hO6KOb7

It is not set in stone. In this case I have seen one of the spreadsheets. Org counts have been established but names are being swapped around like FFL trades.

It's been going on much longer than the 2020's. try going back to the 1980's. They just hid it better.

You are a professional. You do your job and you do it with excellence, but at the end of the day it does not matter who signs that check as long as it clears. That is all that matters. When they are done with you they are done with you, it doesn't matter what you were doing or how important it is. They are done with you and will move on. Never let the job define you. YOU define the job.

If the early 2020’s have taught us anything, it is that corporations don’t care about people.

You have to care for yourself, and treat employment as a way to earn money. That’s it. It’s not your family or a substitute for other things in your life. It’s $, .

Corps are greedy AF, and you should have the same outlook for yourself.
