You don't seem to understand company strategy well, do you?
- who determines what it "needs"?
- who says what it needs is going to successful?
- there is evidence full electrification isnt going to work (grid systems, chargers, batt infrastructure, etc)
- There is a highly politicized environment pushing a green agenda, how could that affect things?
- ford has a long standing history of age discrimination, how could that play into it?
- ford has a massive pension debt at its hands
- older engineers are always the ones working on the older technologies, but you know, another way to look at it is you will be old soon, too, and be working on older technologies. I'm sure you are prepared.
I wonder if their EVs will catch fire like all their current gas powered vehicles ?
@wrq+1hPAGfMU Where though? Everyone I talk to at the working level is overloaded already due to cuts and the hiring freeze that has been in place since 2019. We could cut a lot of LL's without much impact but lord knows that won't happen.
They stopped talking about it recently but that headcount target seemed to come from benchmarking Tesla/Stellantis. 2 companies that are near the bottom of JD Power in quality and very different platform strategies from Ford. If that is what the leadership team wants they need to start setting program goals that align with it.
Stop calling it a layoff folks. It’s called fired. Ford has no intention of calling anyone back.
There is a long discussion on this, it was started a few hours ago

Obviously layoffs suck and should be avoided....but another way to look at it is, Ford has 8,000 more people than it needs
8,000 Ford employees will be replaced by Greta Thunberg.
