Why anyone would ever choose to work at Ford is beyond me. They have been axing employees by the thousand for years. You work at Ford at your own risk. There is a reason Ford stock price has hung around $10 per share for years.
Why do people keep using the word "layoffs?" Layoff implies you might get called back.
Chariot, Go Ride, Ride sharing, Spin, Mobility, City Solutions, Boston Consulting for SRD disaster, etc. All Failed and cost the company millions of dollars if not billions. Where is the accountability for that? Instead of looking at the bad leadership (many who walked away with millions in their pocket), they cut the people at the front lines to make up for the money the leaders squandered. It is so disgusting. But hey, we are all part of Ford that is now a dysfunctional family.
Jim Farley jut sent out a video regarding the 8000+ layoff news. He did NOT deny it. He basically confirmed it.
Time to buy stock in Xanax and Prozac.
@1lwx time to fire all the LL3, LL4, LL5
Laying people off as a way to meet profitability goals just tells me the current management team doesn't have any good ideas.
@oen+1hOel5lE "This is done on purpose, they want people to start leaving so they do not have to pay severance."
Start leaving? There has been a steady stream of people hitting the exits for the last year.
So many decisions to make who to cut. The low performer? Person in the wrong position at wrong time? The white male so we have a more diverse workforce? I bet on #3.
“Best of luck for those who are work from home these past 2 years. The gravy train has comes to an end.“ you sound like some miserable S-B just relishing in this. These people have families, and never did anything wrong except picking to work in 1. Automotive 2. Ford. Some GSR lap dog that probably kissed a-s and was happy being used like a piece of Kleenex. If you think there are going to be 8000x low performers you are delusional. There are going to be some really good people let go, but because you are some back stabbing POS you will be spared.
Those who are none contributors, you know who you are - will get a surprise. Best of luck for those who are work from home these past 2 years. The gravy train has comes to an end.
Another year, another cull. Why can’t the company find purpose for it’s rank and file? Oh that’s right the same management remains every time there is a cut… Bu-----t programs, horrid decisions, no accountability. To top it off failed business ventures that just drain cash.
I've been anxiously awaiting to see the financials for this last quarter. If I had to guess, the numbers aren't great and this is a panic reaction to that. I'd watch closely and skim through those when they get released.
In the meantime, don't panic, brush up your resume and LinkedIn profile and God speed if you get cut. It's abhorrent to have to read about this externally but that's how it always goes. So much for the focus on "employee mental health and wellbeing"
"CEO has said Ford profit hampered by having too many people" .... it's more like the profit is hampered by Ford designing and building and selling c-r-a-p vehicles that catch fire and set houses on fire, drop valves after 3 months, roll away when they are in park, the windshields fall out, the windshield wipers break, etc etc etc...
@vfv No I do not have any confidential info. All I heard that “25th July week Layoffs” .. Thats it. No idea if its true or false. Thats when i rang the bell. I am not connecting any dots.
But this news article kinda in a way confirms whatever I heard, no mention of date though.
@wtt I don’t think many agency folks or PS are remaining at Ford. They trimmed them long back. Whoever is left is good stock, trimming them is disastrous for the company. They have to go behind the “incompetent minions” who have been chilling since WFH started.
In my area Agency do a good job and are technically sound than the incompetent GSR8 who simply boss over these chaps.
I have regularly pitched for a change but it goes on deaf ears . I have been here for 4 years & 8 months. Waiting for my 5 year anniversary and I will be quitting .
A tip for any of you left after the axe swings. If you have a pension and are retirement eligible RETIRE. You are not going to like the next planned cost savings activity which is related to current employees with pensions. The targeted announcement date will not allow you to retire and take lump sum at current rates. Sit down with your financial advisor or do your own analysis. ACT now or REGRET later.
They can start with the three most useless employees in the company: Elena Ford, Alexandra Ford and Henry Ford III
Will it impact FC -IT team as well?
GM did this a few years back, pre-covid, in Q1 2019.... Just look at their board here it's littered complaints. Their leadership sucks but at least they had a tiny bit of vision about three years ahead of us.
Who leaked it to the press? This is done on purpose, they want people to start leaving so they do not have to pay severance.
OK, KFC aka @agh - hats off to you, you called it first, you are my hero. keep posting good and useful info
"Ford employs about 31,000 salaried workers in the US, where the bulk of the cuts are expected."
Does this mean most of agency/purchased order staff that are left will be spared?
This escalated quickly. 1000 views in 1 hour.
Anyhow, it's trending:

They have already cut roughly 1300 this year with contractors, Purchased services, employees. 1300+8000=9300. Roughly 1/3 of salaried.
Honestly that is roughly the amount of truly deadwood in the Ford salaried ranks. Likely all the deadwood will remain and good people will be released.
I told yesterday about LL4 talks .. and people questioned my integrity.
And for god sake I was in PD to get my computer fixed.
I know these LL4 as I had worked with them before on multiple projects. Now it’s official.
One layoff is up-to-8000, 7999 layoffs is also up-to-8000. There is no time line of the layoffs either.
Who is going to verify if this number is achieved or not a week from now, a month from now?
It's working - the stock is up $0.02 in after hours trading.
Well done Farley!
Finally Bill and Jim are doing something to address the abysmal quality and recalls. Cutting 25% of your salary workforce will fix quality almost immediately.
This is what our leaders think actually.
Seriously, if Ford has 25% of the workforce on the friends/family plan, and those are the ones cut. Then this logic to improve quality might actually work.
It's about time that Ford is doing something right. Two thumps up.
Ford Motor Co. is preparing to cut as many as 8,000 jobs in the coming weeks as the automaker tries to boost profits to fund its push into the electric-vehicle market, according to people familiar with the plan.
Who are these people...?
People in Ford Blue who don’t get laid off are not going to be happy that their work is funding Model e…until they get laid off, too. I see major issues in our near future.
Sucks - but everyone had a warning when they created Ford Blue - which could have been called Ford Not Needed Anymore.
That is a big number - but probably needed to trim years of fat/excess.
Crazy times.
Cutting 8,000 salary employees might cut $1 Billion in cost, but Farley says he’s going to cut $3 Billion by 2026. By 2026, another 16,000 employees need to go.
I knew it was coming before next week’s earnings call, so Farley can claim to be “doing something” to fix Ford’s multitude of issues, many of which are younger than Farley’s tenure with the company.
8000 mostly in Ford Blue.
Does Blue have that many employees?
So there’s 31,000 salaried employees. So 8,000 of that is 26%. Holy moly. 1 out of 4 in Blue Oval is getting the axe.
Ford Employees are glorified government employees trying to hide under a rock! Its beginning to show.
Wow. For once, the cryptic unsubstantiated posts on TheLayoff were proven correct.
