Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Let's help Ford Workers, they are about to go through a massive layoff similar to the one we did in February 2019

Post what you think will happen to them and how to prepare for the cuts. I'll post a link on their board so they know we are sharing experiences. Bloomberg just announced that they are planning 8000 layoffs to save money to finance transition to Electric. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-07-20/ford-plans-up-to-8-000-job-cuts-to-help-fund-investments-in-evs

For the curious, Ford folks discussing the bloomberg article https://www.thelayoff.com/t/1hOel5lE or @OP+1hOel5lE

I was a pert of the GM 2019 layoff and now work agency at Ford. Here we go again!

Just because GM doesn’t have the employees it needs doesn’t mean it can afford the ones it has or the ones that might not provide as much value.

Pointing fingers at other companies didn’t help GM before the bankruptcy either

Vehicles are selling as soon as they hit the lot. The issues at GM are production based. People are drowning in work, no layoffs anytime soon.

Layoffs are eminent at GM too. Vehicles are not selling. Get ready for The Great Recession #2. Money is not circulating into the economy, because everyone is at home buying PJ’s, comfy clothes and food. No gas, daycare, oil changes, work clothes and so on are being purchased. Economy is cyclical folks! I’m afraid the home office/working from home is going to throw us all out of a job.

Are you at GM safe or what's going on in there?

8,000 layoffs pending at Ford. Appears to be ICE and other mature technologies. Just after they lay them off, they will need to rehire again, just like we did.

What about GM? Are we positioning right to weather this looming recession?

Here is my take - the mgmt is having difficult time changing anything. Layoffs save money which the execs waste on projects and initiatives that are not productive or money goes to their pockets through inflated salaries and enormous bonuses. No member of that executive club will be here in 10 years when the investments in new tech pays back, so they really do not care. The board is sleeping. All of this will happen at Ford as well.
