Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

It's finally time to eliminate the rest of the HW org

With the pending layoff the HW org's number has finally come up. No more Sun boat anchor after next month. Remaining employees will sleep better once that chain is cut once and for all.

My understanding is that HW revenues and profit actually rose last quarter. Also, as far as I have heard, there were no layoffs in HW.

Shut it down? It generates almost $1B in profit every year.

I suspect the OP has an axe to grind. He comes here periodically, incorrectly predicting that HW's demise is imminent. Sad.

That makes sense. Eliminate the 2nd highest performing business at Oracle. Java being #1.

True, but as has been discussed here before, LE never wanted the hardware part of Sun in the first place. He only wanted to control Java.

How well did that work out? There was more than enough opportunities to take advantage of Sun technologies only to see them whither on the vine. Suncloud anyone? Virtual Desktop? All you are left with is VirtualBox (which is now a real dog) and Java, which is slowly gaining complete irrelevance.

Then again considering how the O treats its customers, I am not totally surprised.

"As I stated before the big 0 bought the HW division and now it is a boat anchor. WHO'S FAULT IS THAT??? 12 years later and they still can't make it work?"

So it's great to hear that Oracle is finally burying the Sun cadaver once and for all.

HW is dead and gone in the coming months. I have this on direct authority from the top of the company (Safra direct report). A year from now there will be NOTHING left.

I find it helps to think of eliminating the HW org as "pruning of deadwood".

Right bc everything that’s wrong with O has to do with its HW division.

Glad you aren’t in charge!
