Are you kidding me? Where have you been for the past several years when we lost some of our best to layoffs? I personally know at least three people who had indispensable tribal knowledge and were among the hardest working folks who were laid off within the past three years and whose absence is felt to this day. I swear some of you have your heads so firmly stuck in the sand it's unbelievable.

Translation: The job you were doing is worthless and so are you.
So you know it all and everything that happened. Aren't you the genius? Actually the task in question had to go with the security of every single server in the data center. EVERY SINGLE ONE. But that is not important, is it?

Translation: The job you were doing is worthless and so are you. You are probably humiliated and worthless right now but I do not care because YOUR FEELINGS are NOT my problem. Too bad you lost your job but at least I still have mine. Ha Ha! Get lost, Loser, so I can take my afternoon nap!
Would love for someone to say that back to that pr1ck.

Cold, but true. Remember that.
It's like that in all big companies unless you are in good with some of the execs. Those with job security make it a full-time job to ki$$ a$$. It works believe it or not. But I've always believed in brushing up actual skillsets vs bvtt-l1cking.

Hold yourself to your own high standards and always be able to look yourself in the mirror.
Do your job and earn your pay, but anything else (IE doing someone else's job, etc.) is a "No."
In the RIF I was caught up in, this was exactly the case. Our organization was the one cut for one reason only. We were the highest paid. Never mind we knew where all the bodies were buried and were the technical leadership. Didn't matter. The entire org was let go all at once. When asked who will do the work we have in progress, the Senior director simply said "It's not going to get done. But it is not your problem anymore".
If there is a RIF, it is already set in stone who is on the list. It was planned months ago. That's how ours was because of one little slip. I tried to get my location swapped six months before the RIF and I could not do it. Nobody would tell me why but I later found that once you are on a RIF list your location must be frozen. This is a law because it prevents a company from moving you from a high unemployment compensation state to a low one. I found that out quite by accident.
DO NOT work yourself to death for this (or most any other company for that matter). Do your job get your work done as a top professional but at the end of the day, leave and don't think about it. They will cut and forget about it ten seconds after you are gone. They deserve the time you put in for the time they pay you but nothing more. They deserve neither your health or sanity, you are a salary on a spreadsheet.
Truth. Go back and re-read that thread. Safra’s spreadsheet only deals in numbers. Not talent. Not knowledge. Certainly not on intrinsic value brought by the entire human package. She is a finance bot personified.
