Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

VP Retirements = Canary in the Coal Mine

With Humana announcing that they're committed to saving $1 billion in 2022, I've seen a few "higher up" VPs retiring of late. One such VP retired, and the company immediately announced a massive reorg of the organization that the VP was over. Given the $1 billion saving announcement, if you see a VP in your organization announce that they're retiring, then understand that it could very well mean a reorg is coming your way.

Layoffs are a regular thing at Humana. That is just the way it has been for the last five years. I would not waste your energy wishing the company would act differently. We need to save our energy finding a new job.

Yes we know they after coming. A company is not going to tell you until they’re ready so just suck it up. If you can’t stand the pressure just get another job. We would all love companies to be transparent but that’s not how the world works.

To the last comment - I think we all know layoffs are coming but we don’t know where (other than Medicare). It is crushing everyone in the company to be wondering if it is their department or team. The company must have some plan. Just tell people they are coming. It is causing performance issues and widespread panic.

No I disagree. I would rather know layoffs are coming down the road and get ready for them. Maybe it’s me maybe it’s not but I’ll know to tighten everything up in my budget so that if it is me I won’t go down the tubes. I appreciate the transparency. Thank you Humana management. Especially the comms who have stepped outside their comfort zone to let Associates know their area may be impacted. Bless you!

Just do this already . If you are going to lay off people then do it ! Don’t draw this out . If not then call meetings and tell the staff they are safe ! Promote wellness by being up front about what is going on . You are ki----g the mental and physical health of your employees.

The problem is those who duplicate the efforts of those who actually do the work & muck up the message. Even those in middle management who drive work are minimized.

Those in-between middle management and executives do it in a pretty package and the executives LOVE it and are so far off course. Meanwhile, those in-betweeners of middle management and executives don't make decisions realative to their roles.

Executives are so far removed they don't see it for what it is. It's been applauded and reframed for so long that the people doing or driving the work on a real level are flat out tired. Then those who produce but are tired stand trial for their exhaustion.

Is it ageism, classism, a bunch of folks who've never done the work, haven't for a long time, or straight up manipulation? It happened because there were a bunch of VPs thinking their directors were transparent, and they weren't apart from the good ones.

The board and subsequently the consultants they brought in probably identified this a long time ago. May the odds be ever in your favor 🤞

Maybe HR won't entirely be outsourced, but getting in touch a live person now is significantly more difficult/if at all, compared to prior to before ..

This initial poster is correct. There was a Medicare realignment posted as of yesterday. They went from 17 regions to 10

Retail Medicare market leaders were told yesterday that they are consolidating 4 divisions into 2 divisions and 17 markets (including Puerto Rico and Care Plus) down to 10. Do the math, that’s a lot of leaders. Markets top heavy. Front line doctor and nurse worker bees will still have work, for now.

Just a clarification...HR wasn't outsourced. The EAP portion of HR was outsource. There is still a huge HR department internally.

Look at thread for Layoffs starting 22 days ago. Human resources has been outsourced. The announcement and layoff occurred in June their last day will be August. So an outsourced HR department will continue to be very busy. They were laid off one day and the next day a huge article on the high page about all the HR additional benefits that are going to be offered through the new company. That was in June. Everyone needs to pay attention to what’s going on

Hearing of a few more VP possible retirements, reorganizing and internal merging in ops.

Makes sense tbh, but hoping within all areas to retain those who manage and produce without duplication. Should be more appropriate ways of working instead of illusions.

At least repurpose folks who do or try to do their jobs with all these politics, but are collateral damage to those dynamics. My concern is folks will keep buddies irrespective.

I have no faith in HR, which has also been significantly cut back anyway. If done poorly, that's how we'll fold in the market.

For Medicaid all the RFP are still pending or still have to be submitted on the states Humana wants to win

If United can make a profit and still offer their member savings why can’t Humana? The real question is why are we not being competitive? Obviously you can make money and still give good healthcare management. United has been very profitable for years

Just think Of the millions we would save from prevented hospitalizations. I call post discharge members and it’s easy to see the effects of not being able to afford your medication’s. Members have to pay sometimes $300 a month for their insulin and another $300 for one inhaler for COPD and 400 to 600 dollars a month for their blood thinners. Those numbers are for a 30 day supply not a 90 day supply. Getting this meds at 90 day supply does not offer a savings. I have checked, trust me. Most members go into the coverage gap for their medications if they’re on any of those type of medication by second quarter. I cannot afford the cost of those meds and I’m working and I have better insurance than what Humana offers. :(

We were told today that Humana lost the Medicaid management contract. I did not hear anything about Medicare. The contract was awarded to United healthcare again and The contract last for the next three years.

Try to be proactive. Start looking for other positions in other companies so at least you will know what your job market looks like. If the ax falls then you’ll know what direction or directions to go in. Who knows you might find another job that will work well for you. Best of luck to everyone. Here we go again.

Does leadership not understand what the not knowing does to employees? They want a successful selling season and may lay off hundreds ? My family will be devastated if get laid off .. They talk of being transparent but are they really ? I guess no sleep for a while .

Please keep info flowing . Will this impact frontline associates like utilization review nurses ? My entire department is now terrified of getting a pink slip . We are too heavy in management and extraneous positions that don’t produce and are not needed but who will be cut ?
