Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

New generations are smarter

Many are stuck here because they believed that loyalty has some value.
Have you noticed that young new hires are staying here shorter and shorter? It is no longer unusual for them to leave after just one month of working here.

If they can leverage the job to get a new job in a month or see through the kool aid they are just reacting to the new VZ. Generations ago it wasn’t a bad gig.

I had to quit after 9 years. The company didn’t care about tenure. I could have run my store with no manager on duty. Which I did. A lot. What did I get for floor managing, door greeting, new hire training, checking in shipments, doing inventory, and going above and beyond to give VZW a good name? Low contribution standards. And HR and managers telling me that it is what it is.

The thing I had to digest is, sure VZW paid decent even with the lousy commission. But if those layoffs do hit, then what? You’re forced out and then have to scramble to find another sales job. Or go to Comcast. Or a bank. Some job that VZW types of employees always go. I left on my own terms.

I’m stuck here because I make 26.00HR plus that cr---y monthly commission bonus. I also have five weeks vacation. Mind you this is an entry level position. If someone knows of any job that will come close to matching this I would leave tomorrow but you won’t find anything. Godspeed until a severance package comes.

:: It is a job seeker's market ::

:: Businesses have to bend over backwards to keep good people and if they don't, there will be ten others ready to offer them a job ::

:: You never get people trained up enough or comfortable enough to succeed if you drive them into the arms of another company ::
