Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Long slog on the way to a new job?

I have been looking for a new job for a long time and I still haven't found anything much better. What are your experiences? While some assure me that the market is hot and that it has never been easier to find a new job, my experience does not confirm this. That's why my advice to all those who are worried about their job here is to start looking now, because I think it will be increasingly difficult to get a better job later.

HR spreading fear?

THAT is in their job description. HR is the Corporate version of the stasi.

Tis isn't limited to Oracle. This goes for every company, everywhere.

Go to a resume specialist. Get several versions that are taylored to different positions. You need to stand out from the crowd and a poorly written and formatted resume will not accomplish this. you can be the absolute best at your work but nobody will give you the time of day if you don't manage to stand out.

Also, get whatever certification you need to take the next step. Doesn't matter how old you are, if you take the initiative to keep up and better yourself, that gets noticed too.

If you aren't getting noticed, ask for advice. Something might be missing or doesn't look right that gets you passed over on the first step. Get those eyes on it and hopefully they are help you correct what needs to be corrected.

I did this right off and it made a big difference. You need to stand above the rest. Don't be ashamed to get help.

You better start looking now! If all you have to offer employers are skills with just Oracle technology, you’re in trouble as Oracle-only skillsets are not in high demand anymore.

…they should have sought an internal management role

Absolutely, Oracle takes anyone who walks in the door for management. Only boot-licking skills required.

HR knows how to spread controlling fear bits and their b**t cheeks. Hoping the earth doesn"t shatter for those affected....

OP made one simple mistake!

If their skill set and capabilities could not find another job in the market last year, they should not have been looking outside Oracle, they should have sought an internal management role.

How current are your skills? Add some training certs. Lots of cheap/free options

What does your resume/CV look like? Is it a tired laundry list of skills or a dynamic example of what you have accomplished? Use the STAR technique to codify; also helpful for interview prep.

Professional portfolio? For most that is LinkedIn. Some recruiters are skeptical of those who don’t do LI. I’m not a huge fan but I sucked it up and decorated my profile while I was looking.

Good Luck!
