Manager movement

Can anyone tell me how a manager from a totally different department is qualified to manage a team or teams in a new department in which they know nothing about ?

Why aren’t employees given the opportunity to grade managers on a monthly scorecard ?

It’s this out of date idea that employees should figure out their own job and their manager just has to yell at them if they don’t hit some arbitrary metric not based on anything in reality or taking into account unique circumstances.

It needs to change but these people are friends with everyone in their immediate umbrella so good luck fixing the company before it goes bankrupt.

That might be true about management skills but does not apply since most managers are sub-par and in this era you need to be both a manager and leader.

People and organizational management is a skillset. You may be the best at what you do, but that doesn't necessarily qualify you to manage the team that you are on. It is much easier to learn a new product /process in the short term than it is to learn how to manage a team with no prior management experience. It is the difference between knowing how to do your job, and knowing how to best leverage the skillsets on your team to achieve a greater common goal than handling one person's workload
