Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Cheaper to retain than to hire and train

Why do companies refuse to give pay raises? We are losing people left and right and they are leaving because they can go elsewhere and get much better pay. Then we have to hire new employees at higher rates than the people that we had. They don't know anything and then once they're trained, they leave. We don't have enough people to do the work.

“ Conclusion? I really don't get it. “

No. You didn’t, and Oracle doesn’t!

In November 2021 I asked my Oracle manager for a raise. The answer was "no".

I left in January for a contractor position with a daily rate almost 2x higher than what I got at Oracle.

In February a headhunter from LinkedIn called me asking if I would be interested working for Oracle. After a short chat turned out to be a position in a project I was leading in Oracle just before I left. Here is interesting - Oracle was willing to pay almost same daily rate I got at the new work.

Conclusion? I really don't get it...

Employees are fixed cost in Oracle. Senior directors and vp’s are allowed to get another fixed cost or spend on perks (variable cost). But they can’t change salary quickly without strong justification.
The best advice, I give is to quit and rejoin in 6 months

In January I used to Slack my friends at work, now I just use LinkedIn.

Well today another Master Principal with 18 years of leadership and experience walked out the door. This happens so often, they don’t appear to care. One can not help from wondering if this is all by design?
