Since it is well known that we are just a number to them, that they do not value loyalty, that they do not value their employees enough - why do so many people take layoff personally? I had a colleague who was cut at some point and who subsequently fell into severe depression because he blamed himself for it.

Like the previous poster. Security is the issue. If BB gets canned he gets a Golden Parachute. If I get Riffed I get a golden shower.
Well if you take it personally Or don’t take it personally it is time to move on. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. Best of wishes and I hope your new journey is more enjoyable
Poster, I agree with you, but it is not related to you…you were hired to do a job you were appropriate and qualified for…now, the business is going in a different direction, and maybe your role is no longer needed for the new direction. It’s not performance based, or behavior based, but role based on whatever model they are doing. People aren’t thrown on the scrap heap, the role is not needed anymore.
@OP+1h3s83vX Maybe it becomes personal when they are messing with my security and it's not related to my performance or behavior. Life is not an experiment, we shouldn't just throw people on the scrap heap because the latest bright idea didn't work. Mess with my security and you better believe I take it personally.
