Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Fitting into the Chevron culture

I thought I would adapt to company culture much faster than it turned out. I was surprised at how “protected” some colleagues here are by the managers. I couldn't even imagine that I would want to leave Chevron so soon because I thought that this would be my dream job. I haven’t started looking for a new job yet, but maybe I could use some advice or your experiences on how you started to fit in here?

+1gqtnbby - So, by your own definition, I think have described yourself very well. Or should I just say, Chevron public affairs, you have described yourself fairly well.

I don’t conform to anyone’s or any company’s culture. Either they bend to mine or we meet somewhere half way. The fact is, I am currently a 29 year Chevron career employee and keep a tight-knit circle of colleagues and management I respect, based on my culture. I don’t go criticizing anybody else or the company’s initiatives. I just show up, do the best work I can within my work hours and go home. That’s about as simple as it is. Nobody here really gives a sh!t except for getting their work done well and on time. I keep all the social stuff as far away as possible from me. My business is with my colleagues and management and that’s it.

@2snu, Yes Indeed. The "expendables" are the ones who frequent this site right here. just look in the mirror to see an example, folks, lol!

There are two cultures at Chevron - the inner circle (management plus high pots), and the expendables. You know if you're in the inner circle, and your career has been carefully orchestrated for you. They will dangle their life of luxury in front of the expendables, as if the expendables could also lead that privileged life. They can't. The expendables are there to do the daily dirty work, and line up to be laid off when the moment is right.
