People have given up reporting to HR

The prevailing opinion is that HR is by no means there to protect the interests of employees. That is why most people generally avoid reporting their problems from the work environment to HR, because they know in advance that nothing will be done about it. How many times / in what situations did you intend to report to HR but ended up not doing it?

I made an HR complaint against the Executive Director the ran my department over racially inflamatory statements made in a department wide meeting. To my knowledge nothing was done and the racially divisive agenda in our department continued.

I wanted to report a former manager multiple times for favoring certain people within our team for projects and promotions as every time I would show interest in a project/position being presented they would come at me with 'WHY DON'T YOU WANT TO DO X, Y OR Z ANYMORE?'. Then I'd basically be told that I shouldn't even bother applying because I was never under consideration even tho I had the knowledge/skills for the positions opening.
Then when I just applied out internally I would always get denial after denial saying I was no longer under consideration and never got interviews even tho I met all qualifications and did most of the jobs I applied for previously. It always felt like I was placed on a list somewhere that prevented me from getting an interview or a fair shake. I could never get a straight answer from leadership as to why I was never considered for anything, all I'd get was 'I'm sorry......' - when I asked why they were sorry nobody could answer that straight, either. shrugs
