Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

The Future of Telephonic Care Management

Those working in a telephonic care management role (RN/SW) I’m curious what your thoughts are on what the future holds for us.

As the other poster mentioned, the reimbursement is higher in Medicaid. Humana has also said they’re focusing on the higher quadrant reimbursement, which is through Medicaid. Those programs are safest. Specific programs that deal with SDOH should be safer, as well as BH and pharmacy. It seems the next RIF, if there is one….and I don’t think there is since they were working towards their billions saved in the last RIF, and cutting back on things like OTC due to lack of enrollment, may hit hah CMs.

Humana is having a horrible leadership and leadership knows that. Unfortunately, they can't fire themselves so they are firing people who work.

Thank goodness for Medicare. Look at America’s history when Medicare did not exist. Such suffering

Health care insurance, medicare, obamacare; it's all one big racket. Like so many, they're corporate racketeers. Medicare is the biggest and best racket of them all. So please don't be delusional and think that Humana cares

When you say higher ups getting massive bonuses.. Where do you get that info. I am not an 'higher up' but I am not entry level and my bonus was not massive. Please elaborate. If you are talking about the Board... Their pay is decided by shareholders. I don't agree with the amount of money being paid to some of our leaders but you make it sound like regular folk are getting a kings ransom, not just the very few at the top.

Depends what department. I heard the contract Load department is overstaffed. The senior leadership is horrible!

I hate to say it, but if you're in the Commercial market, Humana seems to only care about Medicaid/Medicare at the current moment. What baffles me is that Humana is only a reactive organization slashing job any chance it gets, yet the higher ups are still getting their massive bonuses and payouts. If they actually cared about their employees (or their families), they would be a proactive organization figuring out this mess. Commercial has never been a main focus (for at least the last 10 years in healthcare industry). Not sure why it has taken them this long to finally figure it out. In my humble opinion, we need telephonic care management, but unfortunately, logic and actual member intervention seems like it costs too much to do a good job now. We need to save a billion dollars and most of that will come from the actual individuals doing the hard, amazing work. I sincerely hope you, your team and family do well over this next "unknown" of layouts that feel like their upon us. It's seems extremely dirty that an organization would give raises to individuals and hold them for 3 months (which has never been done). Then, given the vibe going around and senior leaders abandoning ship means most of us will not see those raises... we'll be given some sort of severance. Good Luck!
