Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

So it was all a lie...

CDEP'S SN (during her Town Hall) and other WF leaders put on the spot through employee questions and admit Tech is allowed to work from home because it's challenging to hire for those roles (they didn't mention the countless other exceptions...the ones Powell doesn't want discussed per his email).

Sooo RTO was never about collaboration. It was about which employees are valued more. Got it.

Utter B.S. Get rid of these disrespectful liars.

Who wants to work for company that won't even give you your own cube?

It is utter nonsense to imagine they can hire or retain engineers without allowing them to WFH full time.

Let us know the next time the Flu is the #3 most common cause of death for US residents.

Coronavirus has been for two years and has lowered US life expectancy by the same number.

except common colds don't shrink parts of the brain, cause increased risk of heart attack and stroke etc. ... all of which having had COVID previously does - even without "long covid" symptoms. And then there's the 10-30% of covid patients that have long covid...

No problem at all. The last three COVID variants were common cold or less equivalents. It is time to get back to work. The economy needs us, the employers need us and our fellow citizens need us to spend so that they can produce and live.

We cannot survive getting paid not to work and goofing off at home was nice but not sustainable.

Not all Tech is exempt from RTO. I know several Tech team members (oops employees) that have been forced by their management to be in the office 3 days / week and then 2 days the following week.

What happens when there is a covid outbreak at one of the buildings that a large majority of people actually returned to office at? Do we stay home do we go back in tomorrow and get sick?

@kma
CDEP is NOT part of Tech nor is it an obscure subset of its actual division, CSBB (MM's division). Get educated about WF.

@gex
CDEP = Consumer Data and Engagement Platforms

@kma+1gbOvmb3

CDEP is not part of tech. SN reports directly to MM, head of CSBB.

They work heavily with tech. Thus why she was questioned... her team can see with their own eyes, so to speak, that the people they are working with are not in office.

I get you’re unhappy management misled you about why RTO but the other things going on in tech don’t translate to most other roles.

70 hour weeks pretty much the norm for you? Weekends? Holidays? Working all day, taking a break then working late night to sync up with India? Lost PTO?

There are many reasons people are leaving tech here. Pay is substandard, hours are ridiculous because tech is woefully outdated, processes are punishing and literally everything is changing nearly at once without regard to dependencies and impacts. RTO is just the straw they don’t want on Tech’s back. The turnover is insanely high right now and will continue but mgmt is deluding themselves to think laying off RTO for Tech will seem like a gift and stem the tide washing out the door. It won’t.

CDEP is an obscure subset of a department in the self-centered tech area of the company. It stands for Consumer Data and Engagement Platforms.

They only torment employees that they feel they can get away with tormenting. It's pretty simple. Politicians have issued orders to execs to put butts in seats, and the execs want people to quit without severance. The combination of those things have resulted in "RTO for all", which as we can see has lots and lots of exceptions.

After I saw the enterprise travel policy (basically, an OC member needs to approve every trip), I knew that the whole “RTO is for collaboration!” stance was a joke. Many (all?) of us work on teams with people all over the country. If Scott and Charlie really want us to collaborate, we’d be traveling to see our co-workers every few weeks. So…”collaboration” is great when I’m paying for it with gas, my commute time, etc. But it’s not so important that WF will pay for it with a travel budget??

@phk

LOTS of teams had been working from home for years before the pandemic, not just Tech. You must be livimg under a rock if you aren't aware of that or haven't read that on this site. WAKE UP! Tech is not the only team that contributes to the company's bottom line and deserves to work from home.

Of course it was never about collaboration, any more than cramming people into open offices was about “fostering communication”. Open offices are about saving money and RTO is about supporting the businesses that rely on commuters.

Somebody has to pay exorbitant prices for gas, parking, food, and work clothing, or commercial real estate prices will suffer. We can’t have that.

Most of tech was was WFH before the pandemic. I am not surprised that they will be able to continue do so now that the worst of the pandemic has passed (so it seems). Anyone who thought that teams that were not office teams before the pandemic would be in office with RTO were deluding themselves. Managers who communicated that were either ill informed, don't know how tech operates, or were misleading their teams. These tech teams were never in an office so they were not ever going to 'return'.

Yeah, I haven't RTO'd since one miserable day that made no sense. Not doing it and looking elsewhere. I don't believe they have the infrastructure or discipline to figure out what's going on with logins and badge swipes. Stay strong remote peeps holding the line. Strength in numbers.
