Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Anxious through the roof

I don't understand why everyone here writes that they can't wait to be laid off. If they really mean it, why didn't they leave Oracle earlier on their own? The severance pay is not very generous for someone to stay in a company they don't like and miss other opportunities in the meantime. Those who have not found a new job so far, how do they think it will be easier for them to find a job when they lose their job? People just talk a lot, and I believe most are very worried about about cuts. I haven't been able to get a better offer for two months now and I'm anxious through the roof.

Getting the layoff freed me to discover that I was destined to do much better somewhere else. Now I visit here for the lulz. Folks, nothing has changed at Oracle. But YOU can change and Vive la difference!

Working at Oracle is like gambling in a casino. You will have the occasional win, but you know that the house will ultimately take everything you got …. Like the 64 year old below, who has played all his chips. Sad!

At 64+ there is no where else that my skills can be applied. From STK->Sun->Oracle I was on a sinking ship. The rescue squad was worse each time, and finally it looks like a looming layoff could get me. Fortunately a layoff would be silver cap to a wonderful career. Unfortunately, they know my number and could just wait until I say “enough”.

Sure I could have jumped ship in 2005 when Sun thought it was a good idea to buy STK. But promises of better times, stock options, salary bumps kept me there. None of those materialized. Oracle had the same song a dance, but in 2009 jobs were even harder to come by.

I own my decisions. A layoff payoff would be nice, but because of the spreadsheet approach in decision making, they might just let it ride. It took me 7 years starting in 2012 to financially set myself up to withstand a loss of salary for a length of time. I actually control the drop sequence for a change, and to go back into the IT world is unthinkable. COVID-19 brought a delay, but the eject button is enticing now that FY23 is upon us.

For those younger with career if front of you, my advice is to move on from Oracle. If they lay you off, count as a lesson and a blessing.

You will see justice. You are in a losing game.

It will happen. Dealing with the gov't takes time but, one thing for sure, they do not forget.

The one that will go out in handcuffs wii be terminated, of course.

Hopefully that will be it.

Another threat from the 3 stooges? Is there any justice out there?

As the negative corrupt arrogant abusive vps & managers will start to dwindle soon s/b much improvement getting rid of incompetent rats. Good luck to them finding another job,
too old, no skills and too young to retire. Karma is amazing!

If you are not happy. Then control your own destiny and leave. I did an inventory of what I likes and disliked about Oracle. The dislike side won. Called my manager the next Monday and politely told him I was done. It really shocked him. But, he seemed relieved. Anyone working with the old product line has reached their shelf life at Oracle. Remember they don't train, hey acquire. If you are staying around just for money, you are preventing yourself from being happy and reaching your full potential. Control your own destiny. I did and have not regretted it for one minute after the dust settled. “The only thing certain in life is change. How well you handle change will be a direct reflection of how well you do in life.”

Those that love to spew negative remarks just have to be very unhappy people. One especially that is facing prosecution at some point for filing fraudulent patent(s). After hurting so many people it seems he would be remorseful and more respectful of others instead of furthering his unsavory self destructive behavior.

Basically there are a lot of old timers that have 3 to 6 months++ worth in severance pay with high confidence in their job markets.

Unfortunately, there are a good number of people stuck for green card (PERM/I140/and PD to be current) reasons, I know oracle screwed them due to reorgs, bad culture..etc. Those helpless people come and write as they can't take immediate action. The trend continues, it is unlikely that the same people come and complain all the time.

It is strange that people write that they can't be wait to get laid off. Just quit and be done with it. Why wait for someone else to tell you when to move on?

Poster, I'm sorry to learn of your situation and you are right, why wait around to be laid off. You are doing something about it!

If you are a US citizen, defense contractors are always hiring. The pay is middle of the road, but the benefits are decent and it might tide you over until you find your next "ideal" job.
