Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

No such thing as job security

First of all, I am sorry for everyone affected and I hope you find a new job soon. One of the laid off is my friend who was sure he was safe. Why do some people here think their position is safer than other positions? Hasn’t it been confirmed enough times that unfortunately, no one is safe?

I tell people all the time that nobody is irreplaceable, and am always amazed at how many people really believe in their heart of hearts that the company couldn't do without them. All you can do is shake your head and hope they bounce back after they eventually fall.

But aren't we all part of the culture

Q. Why do some people here think their position is safer than other positions?
A. Perhaps they relish the astonishment when their expectations prove incorrect or alternatively, have not been in the workforce long enough to be hardened off termination-wise. (from a recovering Paypalian)
