Unfortunately, it seems to me that it is not.

Not really the young ones (and many have left) and more coming…..don’t have enough stock to amount to much, don’t have the service, the dead wood Lab Technicians +30 years are leaving because of the interest rate move and they see no raise ever coming…..it over in Annandale they see this ,,,turn the lights off and lock the doors in PA….
The honest truth: technical people try the best they can but DW has made the decision to ki-l the little research that is still being done. It is really very minimal and all technical people know that the company will not do anything to implement these ideas and create new businesses. The Low Carbon Solutions will have no "solutions" because there are not enough tech people to find them. The Product Solutions will have no new "solutions" again because all the tech people are gone and the few that remain are doing webcats and preparing PPTs. So, the answer is very little R&D to nothing is done at XOM anymore, and this is what DW wants.

"Lab technicians leaving by the bus load……"
The real reason the stock is at multi-year highs. Lol.
The R&D left is a pathetic regurgitation of what is done in academia and by other companies.
R&D is a dog show.
a new gelatinous cushion polymer will be hitting the market next year based on the lifeblood of EM - R&D. It will be a game-changer in the bump-stock market.
Yes, R&D is still going. Coming up with the newest innovation to make the company $$$ down the road.
Ha ha. Is this a serious question.
If you mean Rot & Distrust, then yes.
The company will be spending more money on lawyers and global Fox broadcasts than on R&D. It's a winning proposition, however.
Good night and good luck.
Turning the lab lights out floor by floor in Annandale, time to pull the plug in PA also., what’s taking so long to shut it down? We are just wasting utilities. Lab technicians leaving by the bus load……
Commodity company.
Commodities still get tax breaks and essentially kickbacks globally.
Research does not.
So answer is No.
Just to clarify - Scientific Research is dead.
Mind manipulation and science-suppression is alive and kicking.
Recycle y'all. It's all on You!
Why would XOM do R&D other than tax breaks. Before I left, there was a department called Coporate Strategic Research.
Haven't for a long time. It was sad to see. And sad to see the company money wasted on boondoggles such as travel and conferences where decades old research was presented.
Surely we're still a leading force in algae?
with a former VP of R&D who has little experience in research, it's not surprising what has happened
