Thread regarding PayPal layoffs

Did they draw names out of a hat?

This whole layoff seems very mismatched. I know several people with years of service to the company and are solid performers who were let go, while some truly garbage performers were left behind. It makes no sense and seems somewhat random. Are those of left just "lucky" this time around, or do they need us for now

All the laid off that I know were useless honestly.

It's easier to understand when you realize what layoffs are for. Getting rid of bad performers follows one process. Layoffs are a financial play. Period. Sometimes you get lucky and are able to ditch some deadwood in a layoff, but it doesn't always work out that way when the goal is to trim payroll and benefits.

I worked there 18yrs. They called a meeting thru teams and let us all know our positions were being eliminated. Just wrong in so many ways.

It's all about your rsus and titles. If PayPal is losing value on their stock by issuing you rsus you will get cut

I don't blame you. I know people who were laid off with 15+ years in supervisory roles and yet teammates who legitimately abuse fmla and have cr-p performance were kept. Like, wtf

I was laid off today. 11.5 years of service, worked in content management for 10.5 of those. Have never been put on a performance plan or even spoken to about my performance. I get several WOWs every quarter and have been told I'm the heart of the team. I'm fu----g livid.
